Chapter 6 - Breakfast

602 Words
After the usual bad night of sleep I planned to spend the day researching places to move to. I dragged myself in the shower hoping to clean off 7 years of poor sleep. As much as I’ve tried to not let the past affect my life as soon as I go to sleep the nightmares start. It got so bad that I started setting an alarm every 2 hours so I won’t fall into a deep sleep. It helps most nights, I feel exhausted every morning but it’s better than reliving all the a***e. Finishing my shower I threw on some comfy jeans and a top and headed towards the kitchen. I had a bit of a headache from last night but nothing a cooked breakfast wouldn’t fix! I groaned when I looked in my cupboards for something to cook. I’ll definitely need to grocery shop today. I heard a knock at the door, that weird, the only person that ever knocks is my weird neighbour who likes to chat, I avoid her at all costs. Opening the door I look up to see Santi with a big grin on his face. “ Suprise, I thought you’d need a good breakfast after how much you drank last night!”. I stood there in shock not knowing what to say. “Can I come in?” Santi asked. I stood to side motioning for him to enter. Still stunned I asked, “ how did you know which apartment was mine?” “I ran into a lovely neighbour of yours who happened to know where everyone lives here” he replied. I rolled my eyes, of course she’d tell a random person where I live. He had brought some breakfast burritos and coffees. We sat in awkward silence for a while. “So how long have you lived here” Santi asked. “ About 3 years “ I replied. “ I like how you’ve decorated it” he stated, looking around at my furnishings. They aren’t much but I was proud at how comfortable I’d made my space. “Thanks for breakfast, I didn’t expect to see you so soon “. I said slightly irritated. He smiled, “ I had a feeling you weren’t going to contact me again so I decided to drop in and hope that I can wear you down with my charm”. I smirked, we’ll be caught me out on that one. “ You’re right, I wasn’t going to contact you, not that I don’t think your nice, I do. I’m just not interested in a relationship right now”. His face dropped slightly before the smile returned, “how about a friend then, I want to get to know you more”. Ok kinda weird, I was drawn to him for some reason but I’d always assumed I’d go through life alone and I was ok with that. A friend would be nice though. “ Ok friends would be nice”. He seemed excited by that, “ok friend, what are we doing today?” “Well I’m grocery shopping and then researching apartments “. “ Great I’ll join you” Santi replied. “ Ok then, it’s not going to be very interesting “. “That’s ok it’ll give us time to get to know each other.” We finished breakfast, “ok let’s go then”. I grabbed my car keys, “ I can drive” he said. “ No, I’d prefer to take my car” I said, just in case I needed a quick getaway.
