Chapter 13 - New beginning

Santi

I can’t believe my luck, she’s actually agreed to try out the place. I was fully expecting her to go back on her decision once the shock wore off but no, the attack must’ve really scared her. Alana agreed to come back with Sahara to help her settle in. I was glad as she was going to have to get used to a lot in a short space of time. I’ve already called back and spread the word that no one’s to shift into their wolves in public until Sahara knows. We all got into the car ready to leave, it was about a 3 hour drive so I was keen to get going. I overheard Sahara telling Lailani that she’d been hit before, when she was growing up. I was livid, I wanted to break something or grab her and hold her. I felt Trent’s hand on my arm, he mind linked me, “you’ve gotta keep control, you’ll scare her”. I took a few deep breaths and managed to calm myself a bit. We started driving and it wasn’t long before Sahara was asleep. She looked so beautiful, I wish I was sitting next to her so she could lay on my lap. Alana mind linked me, “try to stay calm” she said “but look at Saharas tattoos, the two on her arm and the one on her leg. If you look closely there are scars underneath”. She was right, amongst the colours you could see some raised scarring. The tattoos did a pretty good job of covering up what was there. I wondered if there were more hidden under her clothes. I could feel rage building up inside me. I need to know who hurt her, they will pay for this. I hope one day she’ll talk to me. No wonder she wants to be alone, it would be hard to trust people, I just hope she trusts me. Before I knew it we crossed into my territory, Sahara woke up suddenly seeming a bit confused. This quickly changed to a look of amazement as she looked outside. I’m so happy that she likes my land. Hopefully she’ll let me take her on a tour soon. We pulled up to the main house and were met almost immediately by my parents. Great, I thought, I was hoping to settle her in before this happened. I quickly mind linked them to reign in the excitement a bit. They were aware that Sahara had no idea who we are or what I was to her but that didn’t stop the excitement. They’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. “Welcome back “, my Mum exclaimed, then to Sahara, “ you must be the new nurse for the clinic, I’m so excited you’re here”. Mum was practically glowing. I’m sure Sahara thought it was strange for someone to be this excited over a new worker. I interrupted, “Sahara these are my parents Coco and Dimitri, they’ve always lived in this community. The thought of not having to travel into town for health checks is very exciting for them”. To my surprise Sahara stated smiling, “It’s very nice to meet you both, I think this is the change I needed”.

I was staring in wonder at the main house, this beautiful modern house, ok mansion, surrounded by trees. I felt instantly relaxed , like a weight lifted off of my shoulders. The air was clean and it was so quiet. I was snapped out of my thoughts by approaching people, by their looks they we’re definitely Santi’s parents. They seemed very excited to meet me, a little strange that they care so much about a nurse moving here but it was nice all the same. I’m actually looking forward to setting myself up here. Staying in the mansion with so many people worries me but it’s a small price to pay to wait for the cottage to be ready. We walked inside and I couldn’t believe my eyes, I’ve never seen anything like it! This was like something you’d see in the movies. There were quite a few people wandering around, I felt a lot of eyes on me. Maybe they didn’t get a lot of newcomers. All of the sudden I was approached and practically jumped on by a really beautiful girl who looked to be around my age. “Hey, my names “Armani, I’m soo glad to meet you”. I had to practically extricate myself from her. Santi was at my side immediately, “Armani get off of her, Sahara this is my sister, sorry she’s a little forward “. “I’m just not as uptight as you brother “, she replied sticking her tongue out at him. “I can tell we’re going to be great friends “, she exclaimed, “Can I help you in the clinic, I’ve always wanted to learn” she asked. “Woah” Santi said, “give her a chance to breathe “. I finally spoke up, “of course Armani, I’d love the help, it’ll be very useful since I don’t know this place “ I said with a smile. “See, best friends already” she retorted looking at Santi. Gosh what have I got myself into I thought. We started heading towards the elevator , yes it actually has an elevator and got off on the 4th floor. “Well this is me” Alana spoke up and opened the door to what appeared to be a very large room. “I’ll come and get you once I unpack “ she stated. I continued down the corridor following Santi until he stopped in-front of some enormous double doors. “And this is where you’ll stay until the cottage is ready”. He opened the doors and my mouth practically hung open. The ‘room’ was bigger than my apartment, it looked like a hotel. It was beautifully decorated and it was so light. There were big windows overlooking the forest, it was absolutely amazing. I can’t believe this is where I’m staying. The bed is enormous, I actually couldn’t wait to sleep in it, not that I would sleep a lot but at least I’d be comfortable. I turned to Santi, “are you sure this is ok, it seems like it should be for some important guest or something “. “You are the important guest”, he replied smiling. I was starting to find that smile irresistible, I smiled back. “Well thank you, it’s a truly amazing room. I can help set up the cottage so I don’t become a burden ”. He stepped closer to me, I started breathing a bit faster. Looking into my eyes he said “You could never be a burden, you are very important to me”. I realised after a few seconds none of us we’re talking, we were just staring into each others eyes. It was weird, I’ve never felt this connected to someone. I had to physically take a step backwards and look away. He seemed disappointed but quickly covered it with a smile. I wonder if he wanted something to happen, did I want something to happen? I wasn’t repulsed by the idea, whenever other men even attempted to flirt with me I felt disgusted, dirty, Santi didn’t make me feel like this. Girl pull yourself together, I scolded myself, he’s your boss, he’s just being friendly. Santi left me to unpack promising to return soon to take me down to dinner. Apparently everyone eats together, I might politely decline when he comes in or see if I can eat alone somewhere else. I found the bathroom attached to the room and couldn’t believe it had a jacuzzi. Deciding to treat myself, I ran some hot water and soaked for a long time. I may have even dozed a little! Hopefully Alana hadn’t knocked. Getting dressed I was starting to feel a little hungry. To my surprise Santi knocked on the door with a trolley full of food. “ I didn’t think you’d feel comfortable with everyone just yet so I thought we could eat together on the balcony “ Santi said. I smiled, “ Perfect “ I replied, “ It’s like you read my mind!”
