Chapter 16 - Disbelief

1616 Words
Sahara I stopped running and stared in disbelief, I never knew wolves could get that big. Santi shoved me behind him, I heard shouting behind me and saw a group of people running our way. I recognised Lailani and Trent amongst them, “Take her” Santi shouted, my feet seemed rooted to the ground. All of the sudden the group of wolves started running towards us growling. Santi ran towards them, I was about to shout at him to stay back when he transformed before my eyes into a giant black wolf. He started growling and attacked the closest one. There was immediately the sound of bones breaking and there was blood everywhere. Not believing what I just saw I turned to find Lailani only to see more wolves. Did they all turn into wolves too? Not stopping to think I took off running towards the main house. I needed to hide and get the hell away from here. Not watching my footing I tripped over a rock and landed heavily on my shoulder. I definitely felt something break. Too terrified to stop and look at the damage I got up and kept running. I could feel blood running down my arm and my shirt started to stick to it. I rounded the corner and could see the main house in the distance, I heard shouting and saw Armani running towards me. “Thank god your ok” she shouted frantically. I must’ve looked pretty wild, I didn’t stop running, Armani grabbed my hand and started to pull me in another direction. I wrenched my hand out, “get away from me” I shouted, “Are you a wolf too?” She hesitated “Well I guess that’s my answer” I shouted. “Stop, it’s not what you think, she stated. “Santi will explain everything, I know you don’t trust me but you have to come with me, you’re in a lot of danger out here in the open “. Not knowing what to do I allowed her to pull me along with her. We seemed to be going past the main house to another building I hadn’t noticed before. Armani flung open the door, we entered and she closed and bolted it behind us. Over in the corner she moved a lounge which revealed what looked to be a trap door. Opening it she gestured for me to enter. Like hell I was going in there. “I know this seems strange but I promise you that you need to follow me, there’s a tunnel that leads to a safe room. Once we get there we can lock ourselves in and no one can get to you”. Not knowing what to do I stood there staring blankly. “C’mon Sahara, we have to go!” Suddenly I heard a loud growl outside, I turned terrified to see what it was. I then realised there were no windows in the building. Armani grabbed my hand and pulled me into the tunnel. She shut the door which plunged us into complete darkness. Hearing the deadbolt slide I felt relieved that we were safe from whatever was out there but also trapped and scared of where we were going. Armani led me along the tunnel never letting go of my hand. I’m not sure how she could see where she was going but she seemed to know the way. After what felt like an eternity we reached what appeared to be a large steel door. Armani lifted up a panel that I didn’t even notice that revealed a key pad. She punched in a code and the door slid to the side. Pulling me inside she pushed another code which closed the door behind us. The space we were in was in complete contrast to the dirt tunnel we’d just walked through. There were several screens which looked like they were used for surveillance, a few comfortable looking couches, a small kitchen type area and a large tv. It looked set up for someone to stay comfortably in here for a while. Armani led me to a couch, I sat down and lent back immediately hissing as pain shot through my shoulder. I’d completely forgotten about my injury with all the chaos. “What’s wrong, are you hurt?” Armani asked. “I fell on my shoulder when the wolves came, I haven’t had a chance to look at it” I said. I was starting to feel a bit dizzy, not sure if it was my injury or the complete state of terror I’ve been in. “Can I look?” Armani asked. “Uh yeah, I’m sure it’s nothing” I said, feeling even more dizzy. “Can I lay down first, I don’t feel so good “ I asked. “Ok” Armani said looking concerned. She helped me on my side and started to peel my shirt sleeve up. She gasped “this is pretty bad Sahara, your arms cut right down to the bone, your losing a lot of blood “. “Have we got something to put pressure on it” I asked, no wonder I was feeling dizzy. Armani grabbed a first aid kit from one of the cupboards. “Wrap it up as tight as you can I instructed”. She looked hesitant, “Do it, It’ll stop the bleeding and I’ll get it seen to later. I tried not to flinch as she wrapped my arm. The last thing I needed was to pass out for lack of blood, I needed to be able to think clearly. Everything seemed so surreal, who are these people. Have I somehow entered some kind of fantasy world? My life has been pretty dysfunctional, why not add in people who turn into wolves. Maybe I am actually going crazy and this is some delusion my mind had created. Armani finished bandaging my arm, she did a pretty good job, maybe she would make a good nurse one day. Armani got up and walked over to the screens, I could footage of the main house, the cottage and lots of the forest. I was looking forward to exploring the forest, maybe not so much anymore. “How did they get past the border patrol “ Armani speaking to herself. “Who “ I asked, Armani looked nervous, “Santi will explain everything but people need permission to enter our lands and we have warriors patrolling. We haven’t had an attack like this in years”. I could see wolves roaming around on the screens, it didn’t seem like anyone was fighting anymore. I looked at Armani to ask a question but her eyes looked glazed over, she suddenly snapped out of it and realised I was looking at her. “Santi’s on the way” she said. I wondered how she knew that, I was done questioning, it’d been a really weird day. I was feeling exhausted, my clothes were covered in blood, my arm was throbbing and I just wanted to go sleep and forget about everything. I thought I’d found the perfect sanctuary, I was finally feeling safe. The thought of leaving and starting again somewhere else was really depressing but I’d done it before. This time no more connections, it only got my hopes up. The door suddenly opened, in walked Santi with loose shorts on and no shirt. His torso had streaks of blood on it. God I’d forgotten how sexy he is, those abs were something else. But he turned into a wolf, what does that mean for us. He rushed over to me, “Sahara, I’m so sorry, that’s not how I wanted you to find out”. He suddenly realised I had blood all over me. “What happened, I’ll never forgive myself if you’ve been hurt” he exclaimed grabbing my hands and putting his head in them. “It’s fine I said, just tripped over running away” I said. “It’s not fine” Armani exclaimed, “you can literally see the bone in her arm, she needs a doctor “. Santi’s features became dark, “I’m so sorry, we’ll get a doctor right away”. I wanted to say that there isn’t one but felt too exhausted to respond. All of the sudden I was being picked up and carried by Santi, I rested my head against his chest and my problems seemed to melt away. I was put in the back of a car, Santi sat next to me and pulled me into him so I could lay down on his lap. The car sped off, each bump made me flinch. Santi must have noticed. “Watch the bumps” he shouted to the driver, “Sorry boss” a male voice replied. Boss? “It’s ok …” I started to reply. “No, I don’t want you hurting anymore“ Santi replied, “I’ll make sure you’re never hurt again “ he said with gritted teeth. I think I must’ve fallen asleep as when I woke up the car had stopped. I was carried into a clinic and doctors were rushing towards me. “Is this the Luna” one of them asked. “Yes” Santi replied. “We will take good care of her, follow me” the doctor said. Luna, what was that, today has been so strange. “I’m just going yo give you an injection to put you to sleep while we fix your arm “ someone said to me. I didn’t have the strength to reply and then everything went black.
