Chapter Two

HERC The sunlight felt like fire to my eyes as I rolled my face into the pillow. I had only clambered into bed in the early hours of the morning. Just as I thought I could make off with another hour, Connor slammed on the door.   “Uhhh, Alpha?” “Humph?” I groaned with a burning desire ignore his constant knocking. “Henry? Hey, please?” His formal use of my birth name, Henry, instead of Herc immediately pricked my attention. I sighed and slide out of bed, inching the door open just enough to speak to Connor. “What? I didn’t think I had anything scheduled this morning?” “Yeah, no you didn’t, but you might be busy for the next month or so.” Connor said, shaking like a leaf. I could practically small the fear radiating off him. A sheer layered of sweat speckled over his forehead. “Connor I don’t need these riddles. What could possibly be so urgent?” “Well, you s-see, some of the other wolves th-thought that-” “Spit it out Connor!” I barked, causing him to jolt a little. “You’re going to be the next Bachelor!” He cried, his voice breaking in terror. I swung the door open to reveal several of my friends standing behind Connor. All of them looked like they had just seen a ghost fly out of the closet. “This isn’t a joke?”  I asked, all seriousness imbedded in my tone. Anton, my Gamma, spoke up behind Connor, “We signed you up out of interest to see if it was another way for you to meet your mate. We never expected to eventuate into the real thing.”   My thoughts raced through my head like streams of light. “This could not be happening,” I had seen enough of the trashy, romance reality series to know that the Bachelor always chose a girl at the end and was expected to date her afterwards for a reasonable amount of time. s**t. How was I ever going to find my mate if I was straddled next to some trashy celebrity wannabe for the next year, or more? I felt my face paling and my heart thumping in distress. I wanted to claw somebodies eyes out for halting my search.   “I’m not doing it. Get me out of this. I don’t care how.” I growled at the group clustered outside my door. “I’m sorry Alpha,” Anton explained, trying to mask the shakiness. “They made you, I mean us, sign an agreement. There was a clause stating that under no circumstance can you terminate the contract until the end of the series.”   I didn’t realise, but I was clenching the door so hard I had nearly ripped it off its hinges. It let out a loud grown as I emerged from my room, a dangerous power filling my body. “Who do I need to kill around here to get you to obey the Alpha? Get me out of that contract!” I left no room for retaliation. I was the Alpha and I sure as hell was not going on any reality TV show.
