The new migrants decided to go bush for their second good weekend, venturing further up the Bruce Highway to the Glasshouse Mountains, a group of thirteen volcanic peaks that rose abruptly from the coastal plain. At first sight, Anna found these so-called mountains bizarre, their odd shapes and sizes sticking out of the bush as though a giant had inadvertently dropped a handful of rocks. Eager to explore, they turned off the main road onto a dirt track.
