THIRTY-ONE Dr. Li knew he had to find a way to contain and control the dragons—which meant controlling the dolphins. He was working to design permutations of his mutant monsters that would be more malleable to his control, but those developments were still well into the future, so for now he’d have to make do with what he had. Which was why he’d had his tech team engineer something special: microchips that his veterinarian team could implant in the sea dragons’ brains. They would go directly into the amygdala, where emotions were experienced. Control came from evoking fear, did it not? So what better way to control the sea monsters than to make them afraid?
