After traveling north through the Taiwan Strait all day, Captain Williams dropped anchor. They were close now to Taiwan’s seat of government in Taipei, but also less than one hundred miles from mainland China. Eva asked that the dolphins be allowed an open-ocean swim after the long day spent in the hold in small inflatable pools, and at first she was surprised when both Captain Williams and Admiral Quentin consented. But it turned out they had something a bit different in mind. They were setting up a full-blown rehearsal of their rescue operation, including the SEAL team. That was not what Eva had in mind, but it was still a swim, and it did make sense to practice.
