Must not murder him

1975 Words
The glass floors shivered under her heels as she strode across the conference room, head held high with an air of superiority she should have been enjoying—if not for the insolent goat sitting smugly across the room. The staff watched her every movement, their eyes filled with a mix of awe and dread. She slammed the door to his office open, her heels echoing sharply against the glassy marble floor as she stomped into a space she had once dreamed of calling her own. Her eyes stung with unshed tears, but she blinked them back, straightening her jacket with a defiant motion. She had dressed with precision, donning a sharp black blazer tailored to perfection over matching sleek pants—the crown jewel of her "kill-them-with-beauty" arsenal. This was war, and she was not only here to declare it but to win. “Ah. I see you found your way around,” He drawled, sitting up and pinning her with that infuriating stare that always made her want to claw his face off. He leaned back, folding his arms casually. “What took you so long? Were you busy adjusting your little bow?” “Why don’t you go back to pretending you actually work here?” She snapped, her glare sharp enough to cut steel. He chuckled, unfazed, and returned to flipping through papers, likely drafting another resignation letter. Since becoming CEO, he had fired the bubbly, creative staff she adored and replaced them with brain-dead, fashion-challenged drones. And that grim reaper charcoal-black suit he wore every Monday only cemented his villainous image. She stalked to her desk, shoved into a cramped cubicle too small to house a goldfish, let alone the supposed heir to YG. The expansive office could have afforded her a decent workspace, but no—he had converted what should have been her office into a shrine for his medals. She sank into the uncomfortable chair with a sigh. This was why she could never be a pacifist. The world was too full of mentally unstable egotists to justify it. “You’re settling into your new office, I see,” He said in that low, mocking drawl, knowing full well it grated on her nerves. “When pigs fly.” “What? You’re living proof they do,” He sneered, spinning his pen between his fingers—an annoying habit he’d had since middle school. Her smile was sharp enough to kill as she balled up a piece of paper in her hand. “As ridiculous as this situation is, don’t tempt me to commit homicide. I’ve plotted it out, and trust me, you don’t want to leave this world with my finger in your eye.” His smirk widened. “Worried about ruining my handsome face?” He gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. “How touching.” “Yes,” She hissed, her fists clenching. “How touching.” With that, she stormed out, biting back the urge to hurl her mug at his smirking face. This is Father’s mess anyway, she fumed. As the rightful heir to YG, she deserved better than working under Kim Tae Hyung as his lowly assistant. Her heels clicked angrily against the floor as she made her way to the coffee station, trying to salvage what was left of her sanity. She couldn’t help but replay the moment her misery began—the day her father summoned her to his office. She had walked in expecting praise for her latest collection or, perhaps, the promotion she’d been working toward her entire life. Instead, she found herself face-to-face with the bane of her existence. Kim Tae Hyung. Her lifelong arch-enemy. The thorn in her side. The person who could erase her smile faster than a lightning strike. He had haunted her life from kindergarten to high school, challenging her authority at every turn. From snatching her sandcastle spot to stealing her titles in class competitions, he had been the petty, insufferable brat who cried his way into everyone’s hearts while crushing hers under his smug little heel. And now he was back. Taller, sharper, and, infuriatingly, more handsome. But still the same smug jerk. “Come in, Yuna. Why stand there staring?” her father had said with a smile too wide to be genuine. “Greet Mr. Kim—and your lovely friend, Tae Hyung.” “Lovely friend, my a*s,” She muttered under her breath, stepping inside. Tae Hyung had barely changed, though his features were more defined, his dark hair sleeker, and his jawline sharper. He looked annoyingly good in his tailored gray suit, every edge sculpted to perfection. But his smirk was the same, and it took all her willpower not to throttle him when he extended his hand for a handshake. She squeezed it too hard; he squeezed back harder. “So, how have you been, Tae Hyung?” She asked sweetly through gritted teeth. “Better than you, if I’m not mistaken,” He replied with that infuriating smirk. “Yes, yes, you are,” She said, leaning in dangerously close. “Why didn’t you stay in the U.S.? What compelled you to return?” “An old friend missed me. I wanted to surprise her.” “What a lucky friend,” She said, her glare burning holes in his skull. What a lucky friend” She smiled, her eyes burning through his skull. He didn’t flinch, only standing taller, several inches taller than her. Sure, she was five-six and had always flaunted her height but here he was, making her feel small. Like he always did. He leaned back, never letting go of her hand, never taking his eyes off her. “ So, how have you been without me?” “ Better than ever.” She leaned into him, eyes fierce and mind reeling “ Why don’t you just go back now that you know the truth?” The tall brat only smiled, a smile everyone’d called cute all their lives but one only she found extremely annoying. “ Of course not. How could I now that I know you’re happy? It's against my life goal” “ Really? Then don’t expect me to change mine. Too bad I have a company to run” Something about his smirk screamed ‘ plotting devil’. Something she’d ignored when he only leaned close, eyes the strange riveting gray it’d always been. “ We’ll see about that” If only she’d dove in deeper. Turned out that YG group’s fashion house had been suspected of fraud, a case that’d ruined the family’s name and left them too bankrupt and hated to run the business. It was agreed, without her consent, that Kim would take over the business, complete with a new name and initiative hidden from the press with Tae Hyung as CEO and her as nothing but a mere PA. PA? Gosh even having to work under him as an assisting CEO was downgrading enough. Now she had to work as his God-oh-God-kill-me-PA? There was no way she’d have agreed to that. Not until she discovered that swallowing her pride and the knife she’d planned to kill tae hyung with was the only way of getting the company back. It was the condition he’d given. One only she had to follow. And father, like the total boozoo that he was had agreed to it. They’d all plotted against her, with Tae Hyung at the forefront. Where was the world of so-called equality? She grabbed her coffee, dipped the milk in dizzying circles and beamed at the little white heart swirling in the center. Then she flipped her hair back and walked down the almost unfamiliar route back to the office, glaring at every employee with hateful eyes. The little rats were supposed to be under her. Now the case was reversed. Lord make tae hyung fall dead before noon today cause I swear I’ll kill him myself. She thought, pushing the door to his office a tad too hard and stomping up to her work station. Tae hyung sat up as soon as she sauntered in, his beady eye trailing her every step. He leaned back against his swiveling chair, his lips pulling up into that wide smile that made those darned holes in his face pop. “ I see you’re enjoying your first day Miss Han?” He asked lazily, glancing at her mug. He smirked at the words she’d inscribed across the bottom with some unfortunate felt pen. ‘ Worldwide best boss’. Too bad it was all a dream. “ Watching you walk out the door gave me the impression that you were getting me coffee, considering the mug you took” She chuckled, leaning back to glare at him. “ Your ego must be so freaking big Tae hyung. It took up space in your brain.” Her smile turned dark. “ Get your coffee yourself Godamnit” He opened his mouth to retort something but she spun back to face her desk, determined to work in peace and forget he existed. He on the other hand, let out a slow chuckle, watching her stare at a budget report a tad too hard. “ Look even harder and you might burn the poor report up” He said, watching her huff “ It did nothing wrong” "What?” She swung round to face him “ Want me to glare at you instead?” “ You’ve been doing that all your life. Don’t expect me to burn up now” “ Oh it would. The intensity of my hate just doubled.” “ Mine should be a triple” “ You just have to make everything about you stand out don’t you?” “ Of course” He said, spreading his arms “ If this was a k-drama, you’d be falling for your charismatic boss” “ If this was real life, I’d be choking you with a big cheeky smile on my face” “ Either way it works. You’d be smiling because you can’t get over how handsome I am” “ Gosh” She laughed “ You really are the worst Tae hyung. Or what? Should I assume that you watch what’s wrong with secretary Kim every Monday morning to turn out this annoying?” “ Of course I do. And you should too. Take secretary Kim as an example and learn from her. You should treat your boss that way” Her grin turned evil “ Oh I’ll be learning from her alright. Each time your tie gets crooked, I’ll just seize my opportunity to choke you to death and end my misery once and for all.” “ Oh I’m pretty sure you won’t” He said with a smirk, stacking files together and grabbing his briefcase. “ Oh please put my great abilities to test my dearest boss” She said with a sugary smile that went sour as she scoffed and turned to grab a magazine. “ See? You’re learning fast” He said, grabbing his coat and striding out of the office. She lazily stretched out her leg into his path, grinning softly as she tried to picture what he’d look like sprawled on the floor. He stepped on her foot and she groaned quietly, glaring at him as he made his way out, head high through the office lobby. She turned to her desk and tried to kill off time, drawing his face in the most grotesque ways. A post-it note on her laptop spoke to her best. Kim Tae Hyung is a skinny asshole. She tore one off and scribbled her next inspiration for the day. Notes like these were what reminded her she was supposed to hold off murdering Tae Hyung till she got back the company.
