A Night to Remember

1001 Words
After several bouts of rigorous lovemaking, Conley and Avery laid on her bed, naked, sweaty and panting. Avery rolled to her side to look at him.  “Well, now that that’s done, maybe we can focus on more important things,” she said with a smirk and a sign. “There’s still quite a bit I need to know, but I’m starting to feel like it might be time for us to go… home,” she hesitantly finished, the word feeling strange in her mouth. Conley turned so that they were facing each other, eye-to-eye. Which also meant, because of their height difference, that his feet were hanging off the bed.  “I think you might be right. The whole werewolf will be easy to take, and to understand, once you’re in the presence of the pack. Plus, I need to be on appropriate sized furniture again,” he smirked as she swatted him, and then laughed when she noticed his feet were off the bed and blushed.  “Let me call my friend, and then pack a few things. Can we wait to leave until the morning?” “That’s probably best. It takes the better part of a day to get there from here, and forgive me if I’m now too tired to travel through the night. I’ll let my dad know while you’re on the phone.”  Avery grabbed her phone and went into the bathroom, shutting the door. She turned the bathroom fan on so that hopefully, Conley couldn’t hear every word she said. She clicked on Jordan’s contact, and the phone started to ring. Avery realized it was far past Jordan’s usual bedtime, and she just prayed that she answered; she didn’t know what tomorrow would look like, or whether she’d ever be allowed to talk to Jordan again. She desperately needed to hear her voice, to bring herself back to reality so she could actually process everything that happened too. “Avery? What’s going on? Are you okay?” Jordan’s sleep-filled voice filled her ears. “I know this is going to sound absolutely f*****g bonkers, but I need you to trust that I made this decision with my right mind,” Avery said, letting out a sigh. “Okay, not an absolutely anti-anxiety inducing response,” Jordan said, her voice suddenly far more worried and alert.  “I met someone who knows my family. Well, actually, i met someone whose kind of apart of my extended family. He answered a lot of my questions, and wants to take me to my hometown tomorrow.” “Are you sure you want to do that Avery? You just met him, are you sure you can trust him and what hes saying?” “Jordan, I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. I just need to do this, I can’t keep living this way, its killing me. And you know it as well as I do. I need some answers to what’s going on, and I think Conley may have them for me,” Avery said in a rush, trying to convince and soothe Jordan simultaneously. Jordan chuckled on the other end of the line, which shocked Avery. “Is there a hint of something more in your voice? This ‘Conley’ is hot as hell, isnt he?” Jordan laughed again as Avery huffed into the phone and started to deny it. “You want to bang him, you want to bang him” Jordan’s singsong voice teased.  “Jordan that is absolutely not true and also not at all the point. I might be gone for a while, I really don’t know what is going to happen after tomorrow — the answers i want may be hard to find and harder to believe.”  Jordan sighed, and Avery could feel her collecting her thoughts.  “Okay Avie, I trust you. But you might be surprised to learn that I may know more about the answers you’re looking for than you think. You’re my best friend, and I love you. Be safe.” The line clicked and went dead. Avery had no idea what the hell that could mean.  Honestly, she had no idea what the hell anything meant anymore. She was straight up nuts, first for screwing a guy she didn’t know who had just SHOWN UP in her apartment after she had ‘shifted’ into some weird kind of wolf thing. This was absolutely insane. She was in Twilight or something. This could not be happening. Her hands started shaking and she didn’t think she’d ever be able to breathe again with the weight strangling her, settling on her chest. The walls were closing in on her, and she could barely feel her hands as her phone toppled out of her hands into the sink, as she grasped the cold white marble with both hands in an attempt to steady herself. What was she thinking? How could this boy possibly have answers for her? He was barely older than she was. What had she been thinking, sleeping him? Begging him? He must have drugged her somehow. This all had to be a hallucination.  Her head started splitting as her panic rose and she slid down the wall.  Just then, a knock sounded at the bathroom door.  “Avery?” Conley’s concerned voice rang out.  “Everything okay?” “Yeah, just give me a minute,” Avery responded, her voice small as she closed her eyes and laid her head against the bathroom wall and tried to control her breathing. Despite herself, she had to admit the comfort just hearing his voice brought to her bones.
