Ava was jolted awake by the sharp sound of her phone ringing, cutting through the stillness of the early morning. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of the streetlights outside, casting long shadows across the walls. She blinked groggily, glancing at the clock on her bedside table—it was just past six in the morning. Giovanni, still fast asleep beside her, stirred slightly but didn’t wake.
Rubbing her eyes, Ava reached for her phone and saw Lily’s name flashing on the screen. With a sigh, she carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to disturb Giovanni, and answered the call as she padded quietly out of the room.
“Hello? Why’d you call so early?” she murmured, her voice still thick with sleep.
Lily’s voice, however, was anything but calm
