Far out on the ocean that same night, I could see the big ships coming in, passing by on their way from exotic ports. The Modge Bay Lighthouse swept its yellow lamps across the blue-grey surf, a rhythm of music from the foghorn like Swiss buglers on a lonely mountaintop.
