Samir understood about Mark and me the next time I talked to him. I"d gone to the Powolskis to look him up and have the talk that I thought we should have, since talking seemed the order of the day. It was good to see Meredith and Henry again. After a half hour of fruit juice and cookies, I excused myself and went upstairs to see Samir, where he was lying in bed watching his big screen HDTV. He looked over when I walked in the room but he didn"t get up. “Oh, hi, Angel,” was all he said. There was a soccer game on between Brazil and Great Britain. I knew Samir would cheer for Brazil. I waited a bit then sat down on the bed opposite. “Where"s Pepsi?” I asked. “I don"t know. He went out this morning.” Samir didn"t take his beautiful brown eyes off the screen. “I know why you"re here, doll.
