Chapter Two: Kai

I walk into my father's office to brief him on the progress at the Black Woods Pack that we've recently taken under our protection due to an unusual amount of rouge attacks in the area.

It's been hell trying to get them up to par on training, but after a few months we've finally made enough progress, I was comfortable enough to return home.

“Welcome home, Kai,” my father greets me with a hug and I take a seat across from him to get down to business.

“The pacts up to speed, and their borders have been quiet” I inform my father.

“ That's wonderful news Kai, I'm glad you were able to do such an amazing job with them, it just shows you're ready to take on your role here at home”. I look at my father confused, I knew he was planning on stepping down eventually but not this soon, so him bringing it up now is throwing me for a loop.

“I know we talked about things before I left, but I didn't realize you had decided already,” I say.

“It's time, you're 26 and ready to take on the responsibility and your birth right. I'm ready to step down, and your mother agrees this is the best course of action. It will be announced at the party tonight”.

I hate parties, but my mother Goddess loves her can't resist a reason to celebrate, and being the next in line as Alpha means I'm to be present.

My father sees my expression, chuckling a little “It will be fine Kai, just think from now on no parties unless you decide to throw one” that thought alone is enough to help lighten my mood.

“Maybe you will find your mate tonight” he adds on, and I just stare at him. Most wolves find their mate when they turn 18, that didn't happen to me, and over the years it's just faded into the background. Yes, it's unusual to not have a mate at my age, but I'm happy with my life. A warm body to feed my alpha appetite has never been a problem, and I can almost guarantee it now that Alice is up in my bed naked at the moment. She's been my latest girl that's been fun to play with, and I haven't gotten bored with her yet.

“I'm not worried about a mate father, I'll be fine on my own” I tell him knowing it will irritate him but right now, there's nothing he can do. I get up and reach for the door,, but he's not done yet.

“Kai don't forget it's also Beta Nicolas's daughter's 18th birthday, please remember to say hello and tell her happy birthday. As alpha, it's important to acknowledge your pack members and their milestones”.

I nod to my father walking out of his office. So, Betas daughter is 18 now. She's a cute tiny thing with dark brown eyes the color of chocolate, long brown hair down to her a** and curves for days. She's any man's wet dream, yet she hasn't a clue in the world when it comes to how appealing she is to men. I've watched her over the years turn into a beautiful young woman, she's practically a fixture at the pack house because of her friendship with my brother and his girlfriend.

I head up to my room and as soon as I open the door it was exactly as I suspected, Alice is waiting for me already naked and ready to go “welcome home Alpha” she smiles and bites her lip “how may I be of service?”, I smile it may be good to blow off some steam before the party tonight, and she's a prefect distraction.
