10. The Gray Dog

Back in Loveland ( ah, the irony of that name!), we unlocked the front door of our ranch and walked into the living room. The place smelled like a second-hand store. I opened all the windows in the living room and the front door, leaving it open to "air out" the place. I walked through the kitchen and opened the door that led to the garage. As the garage door slowly rolled up with a strident gear noise, I came face to face with a pair of eyes staring back at me. The lights in the garage would not turn on. The light bulb must have gone out. I tried to make out the dark shape of someone or something lying down on the cold cement, silently staring at me.
