“Can you repeat that?” I heard the words, but they made no sense to me.
“I want us to leave the shadow forest.”
“But this is our home. I love it here.”
“I want us to go so we can have pups again.”
And then it finally clicked. He wanted to give me another chance at being a mother. He knew how much it had hurt me to be separated from Ivan and forced to live a different life with new memories. It was a struggle I still faced every day.
“But how is that possible?” Because I remember the rules of the shadow forest stating that life could only be created outside its borders. How could we leave when we were bound to this place?
“I have an idea. We'll try to conceive just outside the borders, under the moon's blessing. She owes us that after everything you've been through.”
