Conflicts Of Emotions

“Let's just say it was meant to be a surprise.” Patricia winked at Benjamin. She drifted away from Benjamin and moved closer to Danny. “I assume you're Danny, right?” Danny was unresponsive. He kept staring at Patricia like a dummy until his father signaled him to reciprocate. Just like Sandra, Danny's mother died when he was barely three. Unfortunately for him, he didn't get to spend a couple years with his mother before her demise. Danny wasn't aware that Patricia and Sandra will move in with them this morning. “Good morning, ma'am. It's good to have you here,” Danny finally returned the same gesture but in a feigned tone. He wore a pretentious smile to erase any negative thoughts in Patricia's head. After the pleasantries, Declan assisted Patricia in moving in the other luggage before he got paid and drove off. Sandra and Danny barely even spoke to each other. For every attempt they tried, Danny kept drifting away. He wishes there's a way he could discard Sandra without making it so obvious. It's not their first time seeing each other. They've run into each other countless times. And during those periods, Danny has been a thorn in Sandra's flesh. He always seeks an opportunity to bully her. “When do we begin the class?” Sandra rejuvenated the discourse just when everyone thought she was never going to talk about it anymore. “Why do you really want to do this?” Benjamin asked out of curiosity. He already distrusts the closeness that might exist between the step siblings. He is worried that Danny's recklessness could corrupt Sandra. He would have preferred for Danny to hire a private tutor or figure it out himself. Patricia was confused. She is the only one who doesn't understand what was being discussed in her absence. And when she was told, she quickly approved the idea. She's excited that Sandra is slowly coming out of her shell for the first time and hopes that the two can become good friends. “So what do you say, Danny?” Benjamin seeks Danny's opinion. "Not interested." Danny answered immediately. It didn't take him too long to come up with a decision. He would rather fail than depend on Sandra's individual brilliance to keep his position in the team. He seemed to be the only one with the final verdict. Should he kick against the idea, his father won't even bother wasting his time to convince him to accept. He never liked the idea from the onset. He is only hoping that Danny will turn Sandra down. “I am in,” Danny changed his mind in a blink of an eye. He can't deny that he can't do this alone. “I accept her to be my tutor since we'd be attending the same school and probably be in the same class,” he added. Benjamin was disappointed. He expected another response from Danny. However, he tried not to make it so obvious. Danny had no choice. He wouldn't have accepted Sandra to be his tutor if he had a different opinion about this. He knew that was the only solution to keeping his position on the team and reviving his professional career. ______ Sandra and Danny's academic partnership forces proximity, late nights studying in shared spaces, and constant. It also involved interactions under strict household rules and growing emotional vulnerability. What started as a resentment evolved into intellectual respect and emotional connection. And that connection is dangerous. Because the more Danny improves his academic status, he gradually pulls away from Stacy, his girlfriend. As the tutoring session deepens, Sandra challenges Danny's ego and confronts his fear of losing his identity without baseball. Danny began to prioritize discipline over parties and self-growth over his public image. For the first time in his life, he envisioned a different version of himself that's not entirely defined by the game. Their emotional intimacy intensified under the same roof. Almost kisses and lingering boundaries were dreams and closed. Both resist the undeniable pull, as they are aware of the consequence I'd discovered. “Are you cheating on me?” Stacy probed Danny after twenty minutes of conversation. The question has been on her lips for a long time. She never wanted to ask him about it, but after observing the closeness between Danny and Sandra, she's convinced that they aren't just dating but secretly having s*x. “Stacy?” Danny fumed as he stood up from the wooden chair. “Of course not. I will never do anything to hurt you, and you know that,” he defended himself as though his life depended on it. "Sandra has a boyfriend. Why do you think I'd wanna have anything to do with my sister?" "Your step sister, Danny," Stacy snapped to set the record straight. “Nah, I don't believe you,” Stacy doubts him. She stood up, folded her arms, and glanced in the opposite direction. She just placed Danny in a hot seat. He tries getting closer to her, but she shoves him aside. “Don't you dare come near me.” “I need you to prove to me that you're not in a relationship with her,” Stacy makes her demand. That's her first time having a conversation about Sandra with Danny. She never had a problem seeing Danny with Sandra. Her hate and jealousy all started when Danny started spending more time with Sandra than any other person. It wasn't just Stacy that was upset. Christopher, Danny's best friend, also shares the same sentiments. They were worried about Sandra's influence on Danny and how she has transformed him into a different person. “What do you want me to do? Just say it and it will be granted,” Danny approves. He's ready to lay down his life to protect his relationship with Stacy. After his father, Stacy is his most precious possession. Stacy smiles as she hears from Danny. She sees this as an opportunity to perfect her plans. “I need you to stop talking to Sandra. I don't want her anywhere close to you on campus,” Stacy makes her wish without mincing words. Her lips didn't tremble either. It indicates that she meant every damn word she just uttered. “That's a joke, right?” Danny scoffed. That's the most hilarious statement he has heard in a long time. He waited patiently for Stacy to debunk it. None of that happened. She maintained the frown on her face to prove that it wasn't a case to laugh about. "Oh, boy. “Are you damn serious?” Danny mumbles. He's now convinced that the situation is more critical than he thought. “This is ridiculous. I can't avoid her. She's been a blessing to my life.” What a way for Danny to turn down Stacy's demands! He didn't just reject her; he rubbed her face in the mud and made her speechless. “So you're saying…” Stacy stuttered. Words failed her to express her disappointment towards Danny. It's difficult for her to believe that Danny will place Sandra over her. He wanted to apologize to her, but she wasn't having it. She didn't even let him get closer to her. “You have to decide now. It's either Sandra or me.” Here comes Stacy with another lifeline. Danny was yet to decide when his phone rang. Immediately he checked who the caller was; he frowned. He would have expected a different caller. “That's Sandra, right? Answer the damn phone,” she confronts Danny. Despite not being told, she already knew who was on the phone. Danny's facial expressions made it even worse. Michael declined the call. He did that out of respect and love for Stacy. He just wants to prove to Stacy that there's nothing going on between him and Sandra. Just when Stacy thought it wouldn't get worse, Sandra showed up. She has been watching them from a distance for the last ten minutes. She would rather not approach, hence the call. And when Danny refused to answer the phone, she decided to show up in person. “Speak of the devil,” Stacy mumbled succinctly. She ensured that Sandra didn't hear her speak. "Hey, lovelies. Am I missing something? "Sandra joked as she greeted Stacy. Everyone was quiet the minute Sandra walked in. She's the only confused person in their midst. “Is there a problem?” Sandra couldn't help but ask. She moved closer to Danny to know why he wasn't responding to his calls. “Tell her to leave, Danny,” Stacy commands him. “What did you just say?” Sandra giggled. She wasn't sure if Stacy meant what she just said. “I wasn't talking to you, loser,” Stacy attacks Sandra, forcing her to seal her lips. “I am still waiting for you to decide, Danny,” Stacy reminds him. She remained firm on her decision. It didn't seem like she was willing to back down anytime soon. Danny was confused. He hasn't been this clueless before in all his life. He's about to make one of the hardest decisions of his life. He wants to have the both of them in the same space but lacks the courage to make it happen. “You have sixty seconds to decide, Danny. Trust me, I'll walk away from your life for good,” Stacy threatened him. She made the situation more difficult than it was before. "It's fine. “I'll leave,” Sandra volunteered, but Danny pulled her back. “No, please stay; I can sort it out.” “Oh, s**t,” Stacy wept. She just couldn't control her tears anymore. “You worthless piece of s**t,” she spat at Danny and stormed off, leaving Sandra with Danny. Danny didn't regret his actions. He didn't even attempt to run after Stacy to plead for forgiveness. He hates to see her leave, but she loves to watch him go.
