Chapter Two:The marriage contract

1439 Words
As Anna walked with the tall bodyguard, she tried to look around for potential escape routes. She did not know how the meeting with the man’s boss was going to go and Anna needed to make sure that she could leave if it all goes downhill. Anna and the bodyguard entered the elevator and Anna watched the man press the button for the top floor. “He must be very rich to be able to afford a room in the top floor..” Anna thought, impressed but becoming more nervous. The entire elevator ride was spent in complete silence. When they got to the top floor, the bodyguard stepped out first and directed Anna towards the private room of his boss. “The boss is expecting you.” The bodyguard said as he stopped in front of a private room. He turned around and knocked twice. “Come in.” A deep raspy voice ordered from inside the room. The bodyguard nodded and opened the door ushering Anna inside. When Anna walked inside, she stopped and actually took a good look at the man who called her up. The man was currently sitting in front of a dinner table and looking up at her. The dinner table was loaded up with food. “Who the hell is he?” Anna wondered as she walked up to him. “Are you the boss that called me over? Why?” Anna asked, The boss smirked as he gestured towards the empty sit in front of him. “To have dinner with you of course.” Anna stared wide eyed as she tried to come to terms with what the man had just said, she was still confused about why all this was happening and what the man wanted from her. “Sit.” The man ordered again. Anna, still hesitating was about to turn around and leave, but she saw a flash of something feral pass through his eyes, she could tell that he was not a man used to hearing no. So, she sat down on the farthest chair from him. “Is this about the wedding?” Anna asked, her pace racing as she tried to look for an explanation for this impromptu meeting, “Was the groom a friend of yours? I saw you earlier going up and I didn’t think you know the couple.” Anna rambled on, With a chuckle that showed he was amused by how nervous was, the man dropped his cutleries and looked up at Anna. “Please calm down. My name is Lucas, what’s yours?” He asked. Anna stopped rambling and hesitated, usually she never gave her real name in situations like this but she was so nervous right now that she could not think clearly. “Anna is my name.” Anna answered, The man nodded and went back to eating his food, Anna watched in silence as the man ate. “Don’t you like the food? Eat.” Lucas ordered as he looked up to see Anna watching him. Reluctantly, Anna picked up a spoon and started poking at her food. “There is one thing I want to know about your wedding performance though.” Lucas said still staring straight at Anna, “Who exactly hired you.” “I knew this was about the wedding.” Anna thought as she grumbled, “No one.” Anna replied, “Of course someone must have hired you. It’s simple logic.” Lucas replied, “So who did?” Anna was becoming very nervous now, she was not usually one to spill and incriminate her clients, but this was not a situation that she had ever been in before. “The bride’s family hired me. They did not tell me why they wanted me to disrupt the wedding, and to be honest with you. I never ask about that sort of information.” Anna said with her head down. “And you keep an oath of silence about your affairs.” Lucas asked, his eyebrows raised, his mouth curved into a smirk, “Usually I do, this is the first time I am ever betraying my clients.” Anna snapped back. “Usually it’s not very hard to figure out the whole ruse, if the groom actually tries to find who I am, he would be able to easily see through the security camera footage and figure out who I am. That’s why I am wearing makeup right now to disguise who I am.” Anna blurted out. “I never meant to say that last sentence.” Anna thought, her face paled as she thought about what she had just blurted out. “What is your primary job though?” Lucas asked, “Is it just to create doubt.” “In a way, yes.” Anna answered, “You know I could be recording this conversation right?” Lucas asked with a chuckle. “Yes, but I don’t think I would be in any large amounts of trouble if you release the information, Since I am backed by one half of the entire family. And if I do go to court, I have an agreement with the bride’s family that they are going to cover all the costs of the court.” “What you did was slander though.” Lucas said, “There’s always a danger of being called out for slander, and that’s why I try to reduce exactly what I accuse the target of to a minimum.” Anna answered, “Interesting,” Lucas muttered as he went back to eating. “You have an interesting business going on. It seems that you are smart about the jobs you agree to take.” “Yes I am.” Anna replied, “Wait, do you want to hire me?” She asked finally beginning to get an idea as to why the man called her hear. “I’m thinking about it.” Lucas replied, “Well, I am not cheap.” Anna answered with a smile as she finally began to relax, if this was just an interview then there was nothing to be scared of. “I expected as much, but you see, money is not a problem for me.” Lucas replied, “Good,” Anna replied, she was beginning to stave off her nervousness, “So, whats the job and when would you want it done?” “I need you to do a trial run for me in about 20 minutes.” With an impassive look on his face, Lucas glanced at his watch as he answered, “No can do.” Anna replied with a shrug, “I do not take on rush jobs. Besides, I make sure all my clients sign a contract.” “Good.” Lucas said as he gestured to one of the guards standing at the edge of the dining room. The man walked up to the dining table with a pen and paper which he placed in front of Anna. “Write out your terms.” Lucas ordered. Anna looked down at the pen and paper that was placed in front of her. “You know this would not be a formal contract right?” She asked with a grimaced Even though a contract like this could still be admissible in court, there was no lawyer present in the room and since the only other witnesses to this deal were his own bodyguards. If Lucas decides to default, there would be pretty much nothing Anna could do about it. “Don’t worry about it.” Lucas said as if he could read her thoughts, “This would have been made legal if we had time. But I promise you that we would get a lawyer after this trial run.” Anna was about to retort back when he held up his hand to stop her. “The pay is half a million dollars.” Lucas said. Anna sat up in shock as the weight of that amount of money pressed on her. “Who are you?” She asked with a whisper. “The man of your dreams.” Lucas replied, Anna’s mind raced and her pulse quickened, this was not safe. She knew that, but she was now too curious to stop. “Okay then.” Anna said, with another glance around the room, she wrote her terms on the piece of paper, “What’s the job about and who would I be pretending to be?” “My wife.” Lucas answered and for the first time since she met him, he smiled.
