Chapter Four: The Price of Power

With Josephine taking the lead, Anna walked down through the large doors of the warehouse with the bodyguards following closely behind them. Even though it seemed like Anna was listening to Josephine, She was actually still calming her mind down and trying to settle into the role of Mrs. Cage.

Inside the warehouse was multiple patrolling guards with guns, Anna mind leapt when she saw the first guard, but she had been expecting something like that so she was able to easily calm her mind down. They walked to the office at the end of the warehouse. Josephine broke off from the group and walked up to the guards at the front of the office.

“Mrs. Cage here to see Mrs. Victoria.” Josephine said as she pointed towards Anna, the guard froze when he heard that, then turned and greeted Anna before opening the door behind him and calling out,

“Hey ma, Mrs. Cage is here.”

“Send them in.” Anna heard a sweet voice call out from inside the office.

“After you.” The guard said as he stepped away for the group to walk in.

As Anna walked inside the office, she immediately spotted the woman who was sitting down in the office table. Anna didn’t know what she expected when she first heard about Mrs. Victoria but it certainly wasn’t a middle aged tall blonde woman with gorgeous looks. She looked like a retired model.

“Mrs. Cage?” Mrs. Victoria asked as she got up and walked up to Anna. “Wow, I never knew that Lucas Cage was actually married. Color me surprised.”

Mrs. Victoria had known Lucas for years and he had never gave her any indication that he actually had a wife. She did not doubt that Anna was Mrs. Cage though, because she could recognize Collins and she knew that no one would be dumb enough to impersonate the wife of the mafia lord known as the reaper, Lucas Cage.

“Welcome to my humble abode, Mrs. Cage.” Mrs. Victoria said with a light bow as she approached the group, “Please follow me to a more private space,”

Anna nodded before following Mrs. Victoria into the private room, she made sure that both her posture and her expression conveyed confidence and power.

“Do you want a drink?” Mrs. Victoria asked once they got inside the private room,

“Sorry, I am here for business.” Anna replied, “I came here for my husband’s package, where is it?” Anna asked.

“Of course Mrs. Cage, I will have it brought up now.” Mrs. Victoria replied

“Go and get package 10 from storage.” Mrs. Victoria said turning around to face one of her aides,

“As the staff rushed out to bring the package in, Mrs. Victoria turned around to face Anna. “I trust that the payment for the package is prepared right?”

Anna gestured towards Collins, who immediately brought up the small briefcase that he was holding with him. Collins opened the briefcase to showcase a dazzling array of diamonds and other rare jewels inside.

Anna was expecting stacks of cash when the briefcase was opened, but the array of dazzling rare jewels shocked her so much that she almost opened her mouth in shock. Anna had to turn away from the sight of the briefcase while trying to act as nonchalantly as she could.

Mrs. Victoria’s eyes looked through the briefcase in delight. “Great, that would be enough to pay for the package.”

Just as Anna was about to reply, the aide rushed inside the hall with a flustered look on his face, “Mrs. Victoria, package 10 has already been sold.” The aide said with fear in his voice.

“Who sold it out?” Mrs. Victoria’s countenance immediately turned angry as she gritted her teeth.

“It was Daniel man. He said he was just trying to make a good deal for you.” The aide replied,

The anger in Mrs. Victoria’s voice extended to her eyes and clinched fists, “Bring him here.” She ordered.

Moments later, a man was being dragged inside the room. “Please, I’m so sorry, I did not know the package was already booked.” Daniel screamed as he was being dragged inside the room. “Mrs. Victoria please,” He pleaded.

“Ma, we caught him trying to escape,” One of the men dragging him said.

Anna’s mind was spinning as she tried to appear as she watched a grown man cry out as he was being dragged inside the private room, she turned her face away from the man with disgust on her face, and looked around the room with disinterest and slight annoyance at being delayed.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Cage, we will have the package delivered to you immediately.” When Mrs. Victoria saw the annoyance in Anna’s eyes, she stopped and apologized,

“Kill him and stop his screaming.” Mrs Victoria ordered as she turned around to face the man who was still screaming and begging for forgiveness,

Anna’s heart dropped as she tried to push down the unease that she was currently feeling, she watched as one of the henchmen brought out a gun, pointed it towards the man and then shot his head off.

The sound of the pistol going off in the small office made Anna almost jump in shock .She clenched her fists and released a deep breath. Her entire mind focused on not making any changes in her expression.

“Why would you do that in front of Mrs. Cage.” Collins shouted in anger.

“What’s all this Mrs. Victoria?” Anna asked trying to sound as annoyed as she possibly could.

“Please forgive us for this disturbance.” Mrs. Victoria apologized as she quickly signaled to one of her men. “Go and bring package 12 here.”

Anna was still trying to calm her mind when a large metal case was brought in and carried in by two men. When the case was opened, it was full of ammunition and firearms. Anna took a side glance at Collins to make sure that it was the right product before nodding.

“Good, pay her.” Anna ordered.

After the transaction, both Anna and Mrs. Victoria nodded and shook hands. “It was nice doing business with you.” Anna said as she turned around and walked out of the back room.

It took a few minutes before Anna was back inside the car with Lucas. The moment Anna sat inside the car, she released a huge sigh of relief and turned towards the smiling Lucas.

“What the hell was that man?” Anna asked. “Someone got killed in there.”

“I’m sorry you had to see that,” Lucas answered, “I’ll send you some extra for the trauma.”

Lucas nodded towards one of his men who made the transfer,

“Nevertheless, Ms. Hart, you are the most impressive actress I have ever seen.” Lucas said.

Anna’s entire body stiffened, she did not recall providing Lucas with her last name. So how the hell did he know that?

Anna kept quiet not bothering to comment on the obvious bait, she was too tired to care anyway.

“Just drop me off at the next bus stop.” Anna said after a while as she allowed herself to relax.

Lucas had a huge smile on his face when he saw how shocked she was.

When Anna was dropped off, Lucas rolled down the window and called out, “By the way, Ms. Hart. I would be needing your service again and very soon.”

Anna was about to reply when the car drove off leaving the still visibly shook woman alone and on the sidewalk.
