Broken Engagement 2

Her words were so shameless, yet Ava wasn’t furious with her. She’d probably already vented all her emotions the previous night. Now, as she listened to all of it, she found it ironic and ridiculous. She smiled sarcastically. “Avery, all that you’re doing here, does Brother Jason know about it?” When Avery mentioned her being pregnant the previous night, Jason hadn’t appeared especially happy. This child was evidently an accident. He was about to take over the Colton Group soon. Before that was successfully done, he definitely wouldn’t go public about his relationship with Avery. After all, this wasn’t glorious; if anything, it would tarnish his reputation. It was clear that Jason couldn’t have known nor approved of Avery coming to look for her. As expected, Avery’s expression changed instantly. “Ava, just let go. The person Brother Jason likes is me. He stopped loving you a long time ago. If not for the engagement that our families had set since we were young, do you really think he’d choose you? “Ava, is there any point in clinging onto a man who doesn’t love you?” Ava seemed rather calm. In fact, she cooled down more easily when she heard these shameless words coming from her mouth. “This is between Jason and me, there’s no room for interference from a third party like you.” Avery’s expression darkened and stiffened. She bit her lip. “In that case, you’re saying you won’t ask to renounce the engagement?” Ava sneered. “If you’ve come to look for me just to discuss this matter, I’ve got no interest in it.” With that, she turned around, ready to take her leave. “Hold it there!” Avery stood up and grabbed her hand tightly. “Ava, just how much money does it take for you to leave Brother Jason? If 10 million won’t do, what about 15 million? Don’t be too greedy, my offer is enough…” Pah! Ava couldn’t hold it in any longer and slapped her on the face! With that slap, a red mark in the shape of a hand appeared on Avery's pretty face. The slap shocked Avery. She held a hand to her cheek as a look of disbelief emerged on her face. When she snapped back to her senses, she lifted her arm, all ready to return the slap. Then, a familiar figure appeared in the corner of her eye. She hurriedly retracted her hand and pretended to stagger backward. Av had not understood what was going on, but her sister suddenly looked afraid, even traumatized, as she looked at her. “Sister, I’m sorry, I know I’m in the wrong. But I can’t control my feelings, I really love Brother Jason. Sister, please forgive me, please don’t hurt my child.” She looked like she was about to fall to the ground. Out of the blue, the door was pushed open swiftly as a man dashed in. “Avery!” The man hurriedly held Avery tightly. “Avery, are you alright?” The man was Jason Colton. Avery leaned on him and looked up with teary eyes. She then called out in the most pitiful manner, “Brother Jason.” “I’m so afraid. Our baby almost…” She began trembling as she spoke, and tears now rolled down her cheeks. “Brother Jason, I know I’ve let Sister down, and I won’t dare expect nor ask for her forgiveness. She can scold or even hit me, and I’d be willing to take all of it. But our baby is innocent! How could she…” Aveey’s cheek was still swollen from the hit. The handprint had not faded. Even her eyes were swollen. She seemed so startled by what had just happened as she shivered in his embrace. Jason’s heart went out to her as he saw how terrified she looked. When he turned around to face Ava, his face was lined with contempt and disappointment. “Ava, the baby Avery is carrying, is only about a month old. This is the most unstable period. Given the way you shoved her, if she really did fall to the ground, do you know what the consequences would be?” “I always thought you were kind and gentle, why have you become so vicious!” “I’m vicious?” Ava felt herself sway as she stared at the man in disbelief. He was clad in a full white outfit. This handsome, charismatic man was like a prince. This face, she’d admired for so many years. But at this point, this face seemed all too foreign and unrecognizable. She was his fiancée. They had known each other for a decade! And yet, he instantly chose to believe Avery Hudson’s words. 10 years… was that all there was to his trust towards her? In Jason’s eyes, she was just a vicious woman! Seeing the way he held Avery tightly in his arms, and how differently he looked at her, her heart went cold as disappointment filled her eyes. “Jason Colton, have you forgotten whose fiancé you are? And who is the woman in your arms?” Jason froze for a few seconds. He stared at Ava’s mockingly sorrowful eyes and frowned, a trace of guilt finally appearing in his eyes. However, he continued hugging the woman in his arms tightly. “I’m sorry, Av. Avery is pregnant with my child, so I have to take responsibility for her.” “Nonsense.” Ava felt like she had just heard a big joke. “You have to take responsibility for her? What about me? Jason, what am I?” Jason pursed his lips tightly. He looked down at Avery’s pale face and trembling body. He tightened his embrace and held her firmly in his arms. Avery also hugged onto him tightly, still appearing very attached to him. She called gently, “Brother Jason.” Jason reached out and touched her head, then raised his head to look at Ava. After a long silence, he said hoarsely, “Ava, I’m sorry. The person I love is Avery. I can’t deceive myself, and I would rather not deceive you.” After listening to his apology, Ava felt freezing and disappointed. She just wanted to laugh now. Initially, he had said that he would stay with her for a lifetime and would never let her down. He had also said that he would only love her in his life. But now, what was all this? He just said that he was in love with Avery. Ava’s lips twitched a little ironically and she laughed. Avery turned and smirked slightly, revealing a smile of victory. Her lips moved, and although no sound came out from her mouth, Ava understood what she was saying. She was saying: Sister, I won again. Ava looked at the two embracing each other, the disappointment, and sadness fading a little. After a moment, she nodded. “Okay, Jason Colton.” She looked at the familiar but strange face in front of her. There were no emotions in his eyes except for indifference. “As you wish, we will break the engagement. “Jason, from this moment on, we go our separate ways. If we see each other in the future, we are strangers!”
