CHAPTER TWO

The next morning Mia turns and turns in her bed, wondering what she would do with the text she got last night. She looked at her phone for the 100th time as she read the text in her mind “Hi beautiful, it’s Luca. Wanna hang out sometime if you don’t mind?”
“Wanna hang out sometime?? Why would I want to hang out with someone my boss hates??” She thought to herself.
“Well…maybe one hangout isn’t going to hurt,” she says to herself as she finally musters up the courage to reply to the text.
“Sure” she texted back.
The previous night she happened to sleep in the Peterson’s house since Mrs Spencer wanted everyone together that night for dinner.
“Mia!!!” Alexander shouts from downstairs
“Meet me in the car in 10”
“s**t I’ve got to get ready,” she says as she drops her phone and quickly gets into the shower.
When they got to work that day, preparations filled the whole place. All hands were on deck as Alexander was going to be appointed the new CEO of “Hixx” tech company in two weeks and it was going to be a big event.

Meanwhile on the other hand Luca had different preparations going on for him. Luca also had a tech company “Gastro” that developed video games and provided other services but his company was a bit smaller than “Hixx”. And he planned to ruin the Hixx company.
“ He looks happy” Luca’s personal assistant Daxton said as they were watching the news on how Alexander was going to be appointed the new CEO of Hixx company soon.
“Well, it’s not gonna last” Luca responds.
“Still planning on getting your revenge on him,” Daxton asked.
“He’s not going free after what he did to me,” Luca replies angrily.
“You’ve got any plans?” Daxton asked.
“Of course,” Luca said with his usual smirk.

In the meantime, in the Peterson’s house, Mr Ezra comes for a visit.
“How are the preparations going” Ezra asks
“Fine” Mrs Spencer says
“I can’t believe little Alexander is now going to head his dad’s company, I'm so proud of him”
“Me too, if only he’d take his love life seriously the way he does to his work”
“ Oh, he’ll come around” Ezra assures Spencer
“I hope so”.
“So tell me about this new boutique you want to open?”
Mr Ezra and Mrs Spencer chatted away as they were having brunch.

It was a beautiful Sunday, the sun painted the sky in hues of gold and pink as gentle breezes carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers through the air. Birds chirped melodiously, adding a symphony to the peaceful day. Mia was happy because she knew she wasn’t going to work that day but that was not the only reason she was happy. She was also happy because she had an ice cream date planned out with Luca.
She goes ahead to inform Alexander about her going out because that was a normal routine for her. But she doesn’t exactly tell Alexander who she is meeting.
After a couple of hours, a Bentley Mulsanne pulls up in front of Mia’s apartment as she elegantly makes her way downstairs in her red dress.
“Trynna show off?” She said blushing.
“For you? Of course”
“Hehe,” Mia laughed lightly.
They proceeded to go to an amusement park where they got different goodies like ice cream, Cotton candy, and hotdogs.
Aren’t you going ride?” Luca asks Mia
The Ferris wheel? Hell nah, not in these heels”
“Mm, What size of shoe do you wear?”
“Eight, why?”
Give me a minute” Luca says and runs out.
Luca comes back a few moments later with a pair of new Jordan canvases.
“You are so sweet,” Mia says as she puts on the new shoes.
They proceeded to ride the Ferris wheel and roller coaster.
When they were done, they started taking a walk to leave the amusement park.
“ I had so much fun today, thanks,” Mia says
“Sure” Luca answered
“Can I ask?”
“Shoot”
“Why doesn’t my boss seem to hate you so much?”
“ Well I don’t like him either”
Mia laughs “That doesn’t answer the question”
“ Yeah… let’s just say we weren't compatible as both friends and co-workers”
“ Can’t you guys just make up already?” Mia asks
“ Oh we are so far from that,” Luca thought in his mind
“Look Mia it doesn’t matter”
“Well it does to me, I don’t think he’ll be happy to find out that we’re together”
“Trust me he wouldn’t care” Luca assures her but that definitely wasn’t enough for Mia.
He drops her off afterward.
“Let’s do this again some other time?”
Mia says nothing but smiles at him and walks back to her apartment with her heels in her hands and her new Jordan canvas shoes.

The next day at work at the Hixx company, Alexander is having a meeting with his board of directors
“How close are we to winning over the venture vest capital” Alexander asks no one in particular.
“Well we found out that another company is trying to win them over, and they’re trying to offer more profit than us,” Mr. Hopkins says
“This company being?”
“The Gastro company sir”
“And what are they offering exactly,” Alexander asks
“My source tells me they offered 15% of their stocks and co-ownership of the game” Mr. Windfield added
“Hmm” Alexander sighs “I would offer everything but not co-ownership of my game”
“Maybe we should consider it,” Mia says “If they help us with this game it’s going to go viral and we’ll make double the profit than if we do it on our own”
“Let me sleep on it,” Alexander responds worriedly “So what’s next on our agenda?”.

That same night Luca calls Mia on the phone
“Hi beautiful,” Luca says
“I was going to say hi handsome back, uhm… but I don’t think you are,” Mia says jokingly
Luca laughs out loud for a while” We’ll I’m sure you didn’t mean that”
“Mm”
“Just called to check up on you, hope you’re good,” he asks
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be”
“Okay,…talk later?”
Sure”
Goodnight” he says as he hangs up the phone
Mia blushes for a little while then goes to sleep.

The following morning at the Peterson’s house
“The car is ready sir” Mia whispers to Alexander
“Where are you off to?” Mrs Spencer asks
“To pick a suit for tomorrow’s event”
“Oh baby you can always wear one of your dad’s suits I’m sure you’d find one that would look perfect on you”
“No Mom I’m not sure I’m ready to do that yet, even tho Dad died months ago, his death is still fresh in my mind” Alexander added sadly
“It’s okay, anything for my boy”
Alexander kisses her on the cheek and proceeds to leave with Mia.

The D day is here finally, Alexander is finally going to be appointed the CEO no longer the acting CEO.
Guests are seen arriving at the place of the event, exchanging greetings, and settling down. The program eventually starts
“Hi good day everyone,” the host says
“Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, and unsuspecting interns who thought they were getting free pizza today” The crowd laughs and the host continues.
“Welcome to this momentous occasion where we gather to witness the passing of the torch, or in our case, the passing of the never-ending email chains, to our new CEO! Let's give a round of applause for the brave soul who has decided to take on the challenge of herding this bunch of caffeine-fueled, idea-generating, meeting-attending professionals. Remember, the higher you climb on the corporate ladder, the more likely you are to be asked to fix the printer! So, without further ado, let's ask our raise our glasses and toast to our new fearless leader, who we hope will lead us to success, or at least to the next coffee break without any more budget cuts! Cheers!"
“Wanna say something to us?” the host says to mr Alexander jokingly Alexander chuckles as he stands up.
“Let’s give him a round of applause as he makes his way up to the stage” The crowd claps.
“Mh mh” Alexander clears his throat as he continues “Dear colleagues, team members, and friends, I stand before you today with a mix of excitement, humility…” Alexander notices murmuring amongst the crowd. The audience, the press, and waiters and waitresses were all distracted, he however continues “…and a touch of sheer panic as I take on the role of CEO in this incredible company. I want to express…”
“ is it true you’ve plagiarized Gastro company’s latest game design” a young man from the press section blurted out.
At this point he felt a shiver cascade down his back, sending a thrilling wave through his body. Mia then approaches him
“Sir I think we should leave” she whispers
“Sir is it true you’ve been copying the Gastro company’s designs for a while now” another lady from the press section blurted out again
“Let’s go,” Mia said again, this time more firmly
The whole hall was in uproar.
