CHAPTER FIVE

“Mom she’s my secretary!” Alexander yelled from the dining room making the house helps to come out and peek to know what was going on.

“Alexander you’re going to be 35 this year, you won’t mingle with any woman, and you won’t let me hook you up with a good woman too”

“ Maybe that's because I’m not ready,…maybe I’m not even interested in marriage in the first place”

Mrs Spencer was taken aback for a moment and Alexander noticed this and felt bad.

“ No Mom, I didn’t mean it like that, I’m going to marry someone in the end obviously,…I just don’t think it’s the time for me to do that yet”

Mrs. Spencer lets out a relieved sigh and continues…

“Mia might not be the kind of woman you were expecting but she is from a good background, I know her parents don’t have much but she was raised properly. She’s the only woman you talk to too sadly but I'm sure she’d make a good wife”

“Ugh Mom!, let’s talk about this later”

“Yeah we will, in Mia’s presence”

Alexander sighs, picks up his cell phone, and goes to his bedroom.

The next day at work was different than any other day. Alexander couldn’t stop staring at Mia while thoughts filled his head

“Could I and Mia work out? I’ve only seen her as my secretary for years. Would I truly love her? Can she even cope with my lifestyle, Goodness, I don’t want to hurt this poor lady, she has been nothing but good to me all these times. If I marry her will I find someone as good as her to replace her?, do I even want her replaced and removed from being my secretary?

Just then Mia enters and interrupts his thoughts

“Sir the conference meeting starts in 10 minutes”

“Okay,” he responds shaking off his thoughts, and gets up to prepare for the meeting.

Later that night in Luca’s house, Mia and Luca are sitting cozily on his sofa watching a popular TV show.

“So how is it going” Luca asks

“With what?”

“Our plan”

“Oh, I..I think it’s going well, …uhm seems like my period might be running late this month”.

“How do you mean?”

“Uh it was supposed to come this week maybe I calculated wrong”

“Yeah, maybe you did” Luca assures Mia as they both knew deep down that they were not ready to have a baby yet.

The next day Alexander pays a visit to his uncle Mr Ezra

Mr Ezra’s face glooms with joy as he sees Alexander standing on the porch.

“Oh my boy, how have you been? Come in, come in please” mr Ezra says as he welcomes Alexander in.

“Hi uncle”

“What do you care for,…uhm who’s there” Mr Ezra says as he tries to call for the attention of one of his housekeepers.

“No uncle it’s fine, I just came to talk”

“Oh…okay,…I’m all ears”

“Did mom tell you about me getting married to Mia?”

“Yeah she did”

“Well,” Alexander hesitates for a bit “What do you think about it ?”

“I don’t think it’s a bad idea son, Mia is adorable”

“But….”

“Just go ahead with it okay?” Mr Ezra says “in the end…”

“Everything will fall into place,” Alexander says as he completes his sentence

“In the end, everything will fall into place.” Was a statement Mr Ezra used a lot and now Alexander was used to it too. Later that day Alexander finally returns home after accepting his fate to be with Mia.

Mrs Spencer also lets Mia know about everything which she completely agrees with because that was her and Luca’s plan all along and preparations for the wedding were in order.

It was on a Sunday morning morning, and Alexander’s car pulled up in front of Mia’s 7-story building apartment. Alexander dials Mia’s number on his phone and she picks up

“Look out your window,” he says

“Uhmm..okay…” Mia replies uncertain of what he meant by that.

She goes ahead to open her curtains and sees his car parked in the driveway, he goes on to wave at her.

“Uh…I didn’t realize we had work today,” she said

“Nope nothing of that sort, I just figured if we’re going to get married we should at least have one proper date”

Mia blushes

“Get ready let me take you out for lunch,” he says

Mia hung up and rushed to prepare while Alexander waited in his car

After some minutes Mia comes downstairs looking ravishing in a pink gown suit and black heels.

Alexander was beginning to fall for her already, he wondered how he never noticed how beautiful Mia was till recently. He even goes to the extent of taking little peeks at her in the car but brushes the thoughts aside to concentrate on his driving. He eventually takes her to his favorite restaurant where they have a three-course meal and get to know more about their personal lives.

Eventually, the D-day of the wedding arrives. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft golden glow over the quaint chapel, The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the gentle melody of love played in the background as Alexander and Mia exchanged vows under a sky painted with hues of pink and orange. Each word spoken was like a verse from a fairytale, weaving a tapestry of eternal love and binding their hearts in a timeless embrace. It was a moment frozen in time, where love danced in the air, and the universe itself seemed to celebrate the union of two souls destined to be together.

Mrs Spencer was the happiest that day, she finally got her wish, and she couldn’t wait for the grandbabies to start pouring in too.

Later that same day Alexander and Mia left the country for Maldives for their honeymoon, and they stayed at a beach resort.

The following night Alexander and Mia were cooling off at the beach.

Mia felt a wave of nausea wash over her. At first, she brushed it off as exhaustion from a long flight but as a few moments passed by and the queasiness persisted, a nagging thought crept into her mind. It wasn't until she found herself rushing to the bathroom her heart pounding with a mix of fear and anxiety.

“Are you okay?” Alexander asks worriedly as he hands her a towel to wipe off her face

“Yeah I am, probably just jet lag”

Mia knew she was lying to herself, she hadn’t seen her period for a couple of months so she was suspecting the worst.

“You should go back to the beach let me wash up,” she says to Alexander

“Alright, just call me if you need anything okay?”

“Sure”

As soon as she notices Alexander is settled at the beach she quickly takes a cab to go to a pharmacy when she gets there she buys a pregnancy test kit and rushes back to her room before Alexander could notice.

Then she checked for her pregnancy status and lo and behold it read

“Pregnant”.
