Chapter 2The next day, about two-thirty, Rose arrived at the church. She’d done some research and discovered that she knew even less about the way DC’s streets were organized than she’d thought. It turned out that the Church of St. Francis was less than two miles from the SearchLight Academy campus. SearchLight wasn’t exactly a college, but neither was it a police academy. It was, instead, a strange combination of the two. People were trained not just for law enforcement tasks but for secretarial, custodial, and peacemaker jobs. Not to mention the handful who were being taught to teach so that SearchLight Academy in DC wasn’t the only facility of its kind in the world.
