If you were me, what would you have done?
When such an offer like this is handed to you freely. When the person offering it gave you a sort of good reason not to refuse.
Dave seemed to know what exactly he was saying and how to make it seem so solid. "You'll have a chance to be part of something that would really help you use a gift you don't fully understand. Use it at it's full capacity", Dave told me.
"The Pretty Boy curse", Dave finished off saying.
"That doesn't seem like something you should be proud of", I exclaimed to Dave.
He put his hand on my shoulder and said to me, "think of it this way. You can get any girl you've ever wanted dancing to the tune of your finger and tongue".
"Okay! That last statement definitely shouldn't be something you're proud of. But I won't lie, it does sound tempting" , I told Dave.
I wasn't sure if I was in over my head or maybe acting a little cocky. But the idea of having any girl I wanted, made me really consider the offer Dave proposed.
I never had a girlfriend in my life, or any girl really. And Lord knows I need a serious confidence boost. Plus being part of something with people of my own would mean me having actual friends. And I wouldn't have to spend my days hanging by the orchard tree alone everyday
My confidence and general excitement in life was just but a spec of salt.
I told Dave with a long smile, "yeah sure! I'll join The PBC". Dave with a similar smile, shook my hand and said to me, "let's get you enlisted" . "Wait! Right now" , I exclaimed to him. "Yeah! You don't have anywhere important to run off to? Do you", Dave asked me. I took a moment to think to myself, and the picture of the orchard tree drew itself in my mind.
"Nope" , I exclaimed to Dave.
We got into his car and headed to the PBC hideout. Dave was speeding through traffic, and I instinctively pulled my seatbelt across me after the fourth car he overtook.
We finally got to the hideout, which was basically an old abandoned car manufacturing site. Though it was a site for sore eyes outside, the moment you walked inside the whole tone changed.
You could tell the guys here put a lot of effort into making this place look like a proper man cave. But a really organised one I must say. There where a few old arcade machines around the place. Some really good looking tables and chairs around. And the table mats on top didn't look cheap either. There were books all around, lots of drinks in all kinds of variety, and technology all around that would make your local accessory shop jealous. There was even a clipboard with sticky notes on one side of the room. What for, I didn't know.
It almost had a sort of corporate office feel it. But what threw it off was the throne like chair sitting at the highest point of the room, led up by a couple of stairs.
Dave and I were walking around together, till he stopped and told me, "wait here kid". Afterwards he walked up the stairs leading up to the throne. The other guys around the room started to gather up around me. One of them exclaimed, "fresh blood" . For some odd reason that sent chills down my spine.
I looked up at Dave for a little help, but he was too busy talking to a guy in a red polo shirt by the throne. By the looks of it, they were having a bit of an argument. A couple of times the red polo shirt guy would glance at me. They soon stopped arguing and the guy in the polo shirt stood by the rail above all of us.
He rested his hands on the rail and cleared his throat.
"Why do pretty boys exist? Simply because we're the ones who keep the balance between the ugly and handsome", he announced to the crowd.
"You there! What's your name ", he asked me in a strong voice. " Uhm, it's Alex ", I replied in a shy voice. The other guys around started to laugh.
"Silence", the polo shirt guy yelled to the crowd. He turned to me and said, "If you can't speak with your chest, then you're wasting your breath" .
I remained silent.
"I am The Alpha, the leader of this pack, and you are fresh blood" , the polo shirt announced.
I could easily tell Alpha was the pack leader. Dave looked like the second in command. By the looks of it, he rose through the ranks, and his intimidating look and stance would explain why.
"See this Club was made to maintain the balance. To distribute all the girls to the right sides. You could say we help all those lesser guys find love. Simply by playing these girls hearts till they break and letting them fall to the arms of the right guy afterwards. A win, win situation really.
We get a piece of the meat, make sure it's good for the rest and distribute it once we've had our cut", Alpha said all of this.
The rest of the guys started to howl after Alpha spoke.
Alpha raised his hands up, and the room went silent again. He started to speak again, "when you're part of the pack you follow certain rules,
1. No going after the same girl. First come, first serve
2. If you can't handle one then don't try for two or more.
3. If you get in some drama you sort out your own drama.
4. No one is allowed to bring in any new member without my permission.
5. And the most important rule of all. NO catching feelings under no circumstances.
Simply right".
The last rule was a little hard for me to swallow especially for my liking. I'm an emotional guy, so catching feelings is quite easy. But I had no time to think about it for long because Alpha had a few more things to say.
"Since one of our own members clearly broke one of our rules, we really shouldn't be letting you into this pack. But Dave likes you and believes you have great potential fresh blood".
I started to smile, but Alpha put that smile away by stating, "that's not a good thing because you can't be out here stealing all the meals for the rest of us. So we require cooperation instead of competition.
So welcome to the Pretty Boy Club Alex. But before we make it official you'll have to go through a little test, so prepare yourself.
I stood there anxious, not knowing what this possible test would be. All these guys were slightly older than me, and most likely seasoned Pretty boys.
