Ch6 Poverty

1053 Words
The basic monetary units in this world are gold coins, silver coins, and copper coins, each with a value of one hundred. Lilian has never touched a gold coin in her memory. Guy was telling Lilian not to worry, but how could Lilian really stop worrying just because she can eat her fill every day now? This family has extremely poor risk resistance; the slightest disturbance can plunge this seemingly well-off family into the abyss. Therefore, Lilian has been running around every day for the past two days, trying to find work so she can save up some money and figure out how to get rich once she understands the world better. Although she inherited the original owner's memories, the original owner's scope of activity was too narrow, and due to her social class, her knowledge was limited. Knowing that this was a world with magic, Lilian had thought about learning it herself. But because the original owner only had a vague understanding of magic, she could only start by making money; saving more money was always a good idea. Adele laboriously brought over a glass of water. Lilian took it, and just as she lifted her skirt, Adele covered her face and exclaimed, " Lilian , what's wrong!" Lilian had taken a pretty hard fall; her knee was scraped, and a lot of red blood had even stained the lining of her dress, but she was still glad that the dress wasn't torn. "Shh, don't shout so loudly, Mom will worry if she hears you." Lilian quickly whispered to Adele. She shared a room with Adele, so she couldn't hide it from her, but she didn't want more people to worry. It was just a minor injury, and she would be fine after a couple of days of rest. Adele's eyes widened, she covered her mouth tightly, and nodded vigorously. Little Evan followed suit, pressing his little hand to his mouth and widening his sky-blue eyes. Lilian couldn't help but laugh. While cleaning her wound, she gritted her teeth and didn't utter a single groan of pain so as not to worry her younger siblings and to maintain her dignity as the eldest sister. Little Evan squeezed in and carefully blew on Lilian's knee, saying indistinctly, "It doesn't hurt anymore, it doesn't hurt anymore!" His words seemed to have a magical power; Lilian felt as if the pain in her knee had disappeared. In this world, there is very little entertainment for ordinary people. Lilian couldn't find a job and had nothing to do. After her knee pain subsided, she started cleaning the house. Lilian swept the filth to the doorway, she saw a boy peeking around. When their eyes met, the boy paused, seemingly a little embarrassed, and quickly looked away before turning back and calling out softly, " Lilian ." Lilian remembered this person; his name was Little Tim, and he was the son of Old Tim, the bakery owner. Anyone who could afford to run a bakery was certainly much wealthier than Lilian's family. In this area, Lilian was the most beautiful unmarried girl, and Little Tim would occasionally give her gifts to express his feelings. Lilian walked over, and as soon as she got close, she smelled the sweet aroma of bread, and her mouth instantly watered. You know, she used to dislike bread, but now she craves it just from the sweet aroma of wheat bread. Who told her to eat such coarse rye bread every day that it could even scratch her throat and taste terrible? Little Tim handed over a palm-sized wheat bread, which was made into a regular oval shape, fluffy and soft, exuding an irresistible aroma that seemed to say, "Come and eat me, I'm super delicious." " Lilian , here you go!" Little Tim said softly, his ears turning bright red, not daring to look Lilian in the eye. Perhaps the original owner was still clueless about matters of the heart, but how could Lilian not see Tim's innocent yet sincere feelings? But right now she's only thinking about making money and has no intention of dating at all! She suppressed the urge that gnawed at her stomach and didn't reach out to take it. She simply said, "Did you secretly take this behind your father's back? Take it back now, or he'll scold you." Unlike Bobby, who would beat and scold his wife and children regardless of whether he was drunk or not, old Tim, although also fierce, would only scold his son a few times and would never lay a hand on him. Tim was surprised that Lilian wouldn't accept it. His emerald green eyes dimmed slightly. When she mentioned his father, he shrank back a little. Then, he suddenly forced the wheat bread into Lilian's hand and ran away. "Little Tim!" Lilian couldn't stop him and couldn't help but sigh. This small wheat bread costs seven or eight copper coins. If she exchanged it for rye bread, she could get three or four of the same size, enough for her whole family to have a meal. The one in her hand was just a small treat. Lilian remembered Tim's kindness and planned to repay him properly when she became successful. Just as she turned around, she saw a girl not far away looking at her with hostile eyes. Seeing Lilian turn around, the girl not only didn't dodge, but strode over, raising her chin and showing a disdainful expression: "Tch, just a piece of white bread. Once I become a maid in the lord's household, I can eat it every day!" Lilian has a memory of a girl named Lili. Lili is the same age as her, with straw-yellow hair and freckles all over her face. Because she is not as pretty as Lilian , Lili has never gotten along with Lilian since childhood and has always aimed to outshine Lilian . Lilian didn't want to argue with the little girl and was about to walk past her when Lily, not wanting to miss the chance to show off, stopped her and said, "Let me tell you, I'm not lying to you! My Aunt Lilian works at the Earl's mansion, and she recommended me to work in the Earl's kitchen. I'll never look at such lousy white bread again!"
