The world has a very high illiteracy rate. Families with the means and ambition to send their children to become monks hire tutors to teach them to read at a very young age, so that by the time they are sent to the Monk Association, they should already have some basic literacy skills. It is probably the first time the Monk Association has encountered a monk apprentice as old as Lilian who is illiterate.

Lilian filled in each item one by one, then handed it to Theresa and asked if there were any mistakes or omissions.
Out of politeness, Theresa didn't watch Lilian fill out the application form. When she took the form and saw that the age column said seventeen, she looked at Lilian in surprise : "Are you taking the test by yourself?"
