6. THE BETTER HALF Waking my tired eyes on this warm February morning,
The first thing I see is you,
Lying next to me,
With your pretty hand across my chest,
You’re still asleep,
I run my fingers through your hair and gently kiss your forehead as you wake up slowly with a yawn.
Another day when I wake up with you next to me,
Another beautiful day that begins with your sight.
Wait,
Don’t climb out just yet.
Let’s stay in for a while longer,
Just you and me,
Laze around together,
Snuggle into me.
There’s no rush.
Like every other day.
I want to carry on with the remainder of my day with your image in my mind.
At the breakfast table,
With a plate of Fish & Chips on the table,
And you, in front of me,
There is nothing else I could ask for.
I know I say this a lot,
You probably think my words are repetitive and empty,
But I’m so thankful to you,
So grateful for looking past my flaws,
All those insecurities and imperfections,
Thank you so much for loving me even though I’m not good enough.
For accepting me,
And making my eternity pleasant.
Suiting up,
It’s time for us to head off to work,
If only we didn’t have to go,
I wish I could just stay by your side for a while longer,
But at least I’ll see you in the evening,
You kiss me goodbye while saying those beautiful words,
I’ll see you soon.
Your thoughts follow me to work,
Every idle second, your picture from this morning flashes in my mind.
Just a little while longer now,
Only a few more hours to go before I see you again.
After an exhausting day,
I head back home and seek comfort in your embrace.
How did your day go?
Did something bother you?
Let’s talk this over dinner,
Anywhere you like.
How beautiful are you, really?
When I think about the time that has passed,
I can’t help but be surprised at how far we’ve come together,
I used to be embarrassed of my little mistakes, being around you made me nervous.
But all that is just a fond memory now that you’re in my arms,
Just have trust in me,
I won’t disappoint.
Keep me closer to you,
Hug me, let me lie down on your lap,
Or rest my tired head on your small shoulders.
After dinner, instead of catching a cab,
Let’s just walk home instead,
It is good for digestion,
And more importantly, it’s more fun, isn’t it?
On this warm wintery evening,
With my hands across your waist,
Let’s stroll through this beautiful street,
You look so pretty when you smile.
Are you tired already?
Don’t worry, we’re almost home now.
Walking inside,
It’s already 10:30,
After jumping back into our pajamas,
We slide into bed.
You look so beautiful even in nothing but that plain long silk gown,
I’m so blessed to have you by my side.
Your eyes look so tired,
That’s okay.
Rest for now.
Kissing your forehead gently one last time as you lower the lights,
I pull the blanket up to your shoulders.
You cuddle into me, wrapping your hands behind my back.
Close your tired eyes now,
Don’t think about anything else.
I love you.
I’m already looking forward to tomorrow morning,
To wake up next to you again.
But for now,
Goodnight.
I’ll see you in my dreams in a bit.
