The promise of change was in the air as the crisp autumn breeze danced through the busy city's streets. With a sorrowful heart, Kent walked the well-known streets, longing and regret tugging at him at every turn. Memories of Jully's laugh, her smile, her touch whirled through his mind, memories that now seemed like a faraway echo of a time-long since past.
Lost in his thoughts and wandering through the city, Kent kept coming back to the little cafe where he and Jully had once enjoyed numerous cups of coffee and moments that had been stolen. He felt a twinge of longing at the sight of it, a bittersweet reminder of everything he had lost. But as he turned to walk away, he was stopped in his tracks by the sound of a familiar voice calling his name.
"Kent?"
He turned to see Jully standing a few feet away, her eyes searching his face with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty that made his heart leap into his throat. However, there was something unique about her that caused Kent to feel a vague sense of jealousy in his heart.
Finally, barely raising her voice above a whisper, Jully said, "I...I did not expect to see you here."
With a sharp swallow, Kent's throat went dry. With an emotional stutter, he said, "I...I did not expect to see you either." "Hey, how are you doing?"
With a slight smile teasing her lips, Jully shrugged. "Oh, you know...same old, same old," she said in a lighthearted and informal manner. However, there was a glimmer of melancholy in her eyes, a remnant of the suffering she had gone through in the weeks following their split.
Upon seeing her, Kent experienced a knot in his throat due to her dishevelled hair, fatigued gaze, and uneasy fidgeting with her sweater's hem. He desired to extend his hand, embrace her, and reassure her that everything would be alright. However, he was aware that it was now too late to do that; it was too late to offer regrets or second chances.
"I have been missing you," he blurted out, speaking before he could control himself.
Jully parted her lips in surprise and widened her eyes. "You...you have?"
With his heart thumping in his chest, Kent nodded. He said, his voice hardly audible above a whisper, "Yes." "Much more than you anticipate."
They stood there for a moment, silently embracing each other, the weight of their shared past weighing heavily on them. Then, without another word, Jully moved forward, bringing the distance between them down to one deliberate step.
She reached out trembling fingers to touch Kent's cheek and said, "I have missed you too," her voice barely audible above a whisper. "I can not express it all."
But before Kent could reply, the moment's enchantment was broken when a voice called out from behind Jully. The voice was rich and smooth like melted chocolate, "There you are, darling." "I have searched everywhere for you."
When Kent turned to see a tall, attractive man approaching Jully with a smile that made him feel envious, his heart fell. The man exuded power and authority with his confident demeanour and immaculately tailored suit.
"Hi Richard," Jully turned to welcome the newcomer, a note of relief in her voice. "I am so happy you discovered me."
Richard smiled sweetly at Jully, his eyes glimmering with love. His reply was warm and comforting, "I would not let you wander off on your own." "Not with all these shady types hanging around."
With a tinkling sound, Jully laughed, making Kent feel a twinge of longing. "You are too generous," she remarked, thanks lighting in her eyes.
Kent felt jealousy burning hot and fierce in his gut as he watched Jully and Richard together. He was unable to tolerate witnessing her with another man, particularly not one who appeared to be flawless in every aspect. Nevertheless, despite his best efforts, he was unable to ignore their obvious chemistry and their effortless rapport.
Kent briefly considered leaving Jully to start a new life with Richard and walking away. But as he stared into her eyes, which still had a glimmer of the love they had once shared, he realised he would have to fight to let her go.
Thus, with a renewed sense of resolve blazing brightly within his heart, Kent grasped Jully's hand firmly and unwaveringly. With conviction in his voice, he vowed, "I am not letting you go this time." I will use every ounce of strength to defend us and our love. Because I am nothing without you."
However, even as he was speaking, Kent was plagued by a sinking sensation in the pit of his stomach, warning him that it might already be too late no matter how hard he tried.
When Kent said that, Jully's eyes grew wide with surprise. She looked from him to Richard, her expression filled with uncertainty. Her voice trembling with emotion, she stammered, "Kent, I... I do not know what to say."
Jully's answer made Kent's heart sink; the weight of her uncertainty crushed him with an unexpected force. With a voice filled with desperation, he begged, "Please, Jully." Give us one more opportunity. This time, I swear, things will be different. I will go to any lengths to ensure that things are right."
But Richard moved forward before Jully could reply, his expression sympathetic but guarded. With a measured and courteous tone, he said, "Perhaps it is best if we continue this conversation another time." "July needs some time to reflect on the situation."
Nodding, Jully's gaze flitted back and forth between Kent and Richard, caught between the past and the present. "Yeah, you may be right," she murmured in agreement.
Kent watched with sorrow as Jully and Richard disappeared from view, their silhouettes blending into the throng of people. He was left standing by himself on the pavement, his longing and remorse weighing him down like a heavy blanket.
But there was a glimmer of resolve in Kent's heart, even as the hopelessness loomed large. Without a struggle, he would not give up on Jully or their love. And with that in mind, he headed back into the city, intent on doing whatever it took to win back the woman he loved.
