Levi's POV:
( Levi recalling the past).....
The day had finally come! it was our 13th birthday. My odd green eyes darted nervously to my five mates who had the same training. Zeeba and Finn, my fellow males, exuded confidence with their sleek grey eyes, while Mika and Kilan, the females, displayed determination with their mesmerizing blue eyes. "Hey, Finn, I'm freaking out about the upcoming test," I said as I swam up to him. "Haha, Levi, you? Scared? You always seem so confident," Finn chuckled. "Yeah, well, that's just a front when it comes to dealing with Zeeba. How do you manage to appear so cool and collected ?" I asked, genuinely curious. Finn sighed and shook his head, "It's all an act, buddy. Deep down, I'm terrified." "Really? But you look so in control," I said, surprised. "I guess that's just the image I've cultivated for this show. Plus, if I show weakness, King Luca might see it as an opportunity to exploit, and maybe the ruling council would put me in a different class from the warriors class I ought to belong" Finn explained. "Yeah, he's a tough one... Hey, speaking of King Luca, rumor has it he's the only merman who killed a shark with his bare hands," I mentioned. Finn nodded, "Yeah, that's true. He's got the scar on his left eye to prove it. But hey, at least we've got each other to lean on, right?" "Right Thanks, Finn. I feel a bit better now," I said, feeling a bit lighter. "No problem, Levi. We'll get through this test together," Finn reassured me with a smile. Surrounded by the shimmering waters of the phasing grounds, I and the others stood, our hearts pounding with anticipation. Mermen and mermaids circled us, their iridescent tails creating a hypnotic dance as the test loomed before us. In the grand chamber of the phasing grounds, king Luca sat upon his ornate sea-ornament throne, his regal presence casting a weighty atmosphere over the assembled crowd. The ruling council flanked him, their expressions inscrutable as they observed the unfolding events. As I gazed upon the imposing figures of the royal court, I couldn't help but feel a surge of nervous energy ripple through me. The pressure to succeed in this test, to prove our worth and secure our place in the kingdom, weighed heavily upon our shoulders. The stakes were high, and failure was not an option. The atmosphere was crackled with tension as the test began, and the undulating forms of the mermen and mermaids formed a mesmerizing backdrop to the trials that lay ahead. With each graceful movement, they seemed to exude an otherworldly power that only served to underscore the magnitude of the challenge we faced. As the instructor signaled the start of the test, my heart pounded against my chest like a drum in a tempest. Zeeba rushed forward with unbridled enthusiasm, eager to prove himself. The revered instructor, a wise and enigmatic figure, collected a portion of sacred water from one of the renowned healers and presented it to Zeeba. The water shimmered with an otherworldly glow, and as Zeeba drank it, a surge of power coursed through his veins, filling him with a newfound strength and determination. As Zeeba prepared to face the next stage of the trial, a hulking warrior from the clan cast his hands forward, conjuring a swirling wave of water that rose up, its majestic form reflecting the power and beauty of the element. Zeeba's eyes widened in awe as he beheld the mesmerizing sight, realizing that he was about to be tested in a way he had never imagined. "Hey Levi, over here! Are you daydreaming again?" My best friend, Finn, swam over with a mischievous grin on his face. He had brought me back from my spiraling thoughts. "Haha, very funny, Finn," I replied, rolling my eyes. The salty sea breeze ruffled my green hair as I turned to face him. "What brings you here, besides interrupting my serious contemplation?" Finn chuckled and flopped onto the sandbank next to me, scattering seashells in all directions. "I heard it's your 100th birthday today. Figured I'd drop by and see if you need help blowing out the candles on your seaweed cake." He teased. Fiona's POV: Meanwhile in the human world.... Fiona, a fierce and independent 21-year-old, found herself in a heated argument with her stepfather, Mr. Caldwell, in the opulent living room of their family mansion. The cause of their intense clash was Mr. Caldwell's insistence that Fiona marry an affluent 56-year-old business tycoon to secure a powerful alliance that would greatly benefit his business empire. The atmosphere crackled with tension as Fiona vehemently refused to comply, her dark eyes ablaze with defiance. Amidst the luxurious setting, Fiona's voice cut through the air, resonating with a mix of desperation and determination as she expressed her vehement opposition to the proposed marriage. Her stepfather's calculation was clear to her: sacrificing her youthful freedom for the sake of his business prowess. This power play unveiled Mr. Caldwell's true intentions - using his own stepdaughter as a pawn in his quest for dominance in the cutthroat world of business. As the argument escalated, Fiona's defiance rumbled through the ornate walls of the grand living room, her passionate protests echoing in the expansive space. The clash of wills reverberated with the underlying theme of power, as Mr. Caldwell sought to forge an alliance that would elevate his influence, regardless of Fiona's own desires and dreams. 'I won't do it!' Fiona shouted, her fists clenched at her sides. 'I won't marry that old man!' Her mother, Mrs. Rose Caldwell, let out a sigh and motioned for her to sit down. 'Fiona, please calm down. We've had this discussion before, listen to your father. It's for the best.' 'For the best?' Fiona scoffed, throwing herself onto the couch across from her. 'For who? Certainly not for me!' Her mother let out another sigh and began to explain her reasoning once again. 'Fiona, this man is a successful business tycoon. He's 56, yes, but he has wealth beyond your wildest dreams. Marrying him would secure your financial future.' Fiona rolled her eyes. 'I don't care about money, I want to marry for love, not for a business deal.' 'This is not just any business deal,' Mr. Caldwell countered. 'This could set us up for life. Think of all the opportunities and connections that would come with being married into such a powerful family.' Fiona shook her head, her long blonde hair swishing from side to side. 'I don't want any of that. I want to make my own way in the world, not be controlled by some old man.'
