Chapter 19: Mission

Clementine It was a normal day. I got up early and went to the kitchen for a cup of orange juice. Then I decided to take a shower. I washed my body with a new concoction from the old woman at the flea market. Her daughter would drop off special items for me. My skin was so sensitive that the old woman would have me test different products to see what worked. So far, it was going great. I always knew when there were new products because as soon as I'd open my door, the aromas would greet me like a warm hug. Since losing my sight, my other senses were intensified. I don't know much about that because I lost my memory during some freak accident, along with my vision. I do remember things from my childhood and I could see then. I locked in a lot of what I remember from those times. When I hear a bird chirping, I think of the blue jays I would see when I walked the trail with my mama and papa. The sounds of water running remind me of being at the lake, fishing with my grandpop or going swimming in the creek during the summertime. Recently, I had memories of a little girl. She was beautiful, like a little doll. There was some kind of fight going on and I had to hide her. I wasn't sure what it meant, but I had asked the Alpha about it. As I finished up my shower, I went to step out and my world went black. I groaned, my head throbbing as I tried to figure out how I ended up on the floor. Like a flood, my life flashed before me and I suddenly remembered. I'm at home, but not at home. I slowly sat up, feeling chills all over my wet, naked body. I steadied myself as I stood, grabbing hold of the toilet since it was right in front of me. I wobbled a bit, but caught my balance. I reached toward the towel rack and grabbed one, wrapping it around me. The doll-like girl, the fight, my mate's death all suddenly came back to me. I shuddered. Trinity. I felt sadness. My daughter. She was still out there somewhere. I had to find her. It was a normal day, but a day I will never forget. Suddenly, I was moving quickly around the house, gathering a few items and rushing to get out of there. Stumbling about, I got up enough clothes, some food, and water to take along until I found somewhere to rest. Without giving it anymore thought, I hurried out of the door and inhaled the fresh early morning air. The walk would be treacherous without my eyes guiding me. But the alternative would be to stay here. I would find my way; I wasn't concerned about that. My only concern was Christopher finding me. Trinity Midnight came quickly. It was a wild operation to me. We didn't really know what we were walking into. I couldn't find out what Hennessey needed the Alpha to see. But I guess it was important enough. The trip to Sapphire Rock wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be considering it was dark out. But having heightened senses helped a lot. It was daytime when we reached the edge of the pack's land. Alpha Chris began giving orders, splitting everyone up into teams to cover each side. "Trinity, go with Hennessey and Vienna." I nodded, but was very confused. I had to nearly jog to keep up with the warriors because they moved quickly. "We're going to go in after the fight has begun. Use your bond to track your mate. Once we find him, we're going to head back regardless of what everyone else we came with are doing. Understood?" "Got it." I nervously chewed my bottom lip. I hoped I didn't mess this up. I was already nervous before leaving White Crescent, but now I felt like I might piss myself. Hennessey placed a large hand on my shoulder and gave me a nod. "We just wait for the signal." Vienna stood tall, her muscular build making her somewhat intimidating. I hadn't seen her before either, but warriors didn't always come to the packhouse. If they weren't training, they were at home eating or sleeping. After what seemed like forever, we heard a howl and then the sounds of wolves growling. Hennessey motioned for us to follw him. Vienna stayed behind me while Hennessey led the way. My heart was pounding inside of my chest. I felt like I was going to vomit. We came up on a treeline where a huge house stood. I could see people shifting and running around the side of the house. When we couldn't see anyone else, we emerged from the trees, careful not to make too much noise. We made it to the back of the house. The yard was amazing. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts and focus on finding Christian. "Are you picking up anything?" "No ..." I inhaled the air around me. "They could be masking his scent. Let's see if we can get inside." Vienna tried the back door and to our surprise, it was open. She went into the house first, then poked her head out and waved us in. Hennessey and I followed. It smelled like someone had been baking bread or pastries. I realized then that I was hungry. A shriek caught us all off guard. The startled woman turned and dashed out of the kitchen, where we had made it to. Vienna followed, returning with her shortly after. "Do you know where they are keeping our young Alpha?" Hennessey started. Anyone who was a wolf could tell she was a ranked member. "I have no idea what you are talking about." She narrowed her eyes and fought against Vienna's tight grip. "Very well." Hennessey pulled something out of his satchel and injected it into her arm. "I doubt he is being held here. It's too obvious. Let's check the surrounding area. You ... are coming with us." "What the hell is going on?!" She squirmed some more before Vienna placed cuffs around her wrists. "My Alpha will not allow this." She struggled to mindlink and Trinity felt bad. She understood what it was like to not be able to communicate with other pack members. Trinity could hear snarls and growls as they stepped back outside into the fresh air. The scent of blood was also present. She cringed, listening to the sounds of bones snapping and whimpers from injured wolves. She thought to herself that there had to be a better way. She continued to try and sniff out her mate as they moved across the land. Suddenly, Hennessey stopped walking. "We have to move toward the forest." We all hurried back to the thick treees and brush, Vienna effortlessly dragging the woman along with us. "You are going to regret this!" She was still very upset, but that was expected. When we got deep enough into the wooded area, I slowed down my walk. "What's going on?" I was out of breath. "Casualties." "How many?" Vienna wiped sweat from her forehead. "Too many. We're going to meet up in the next town. It's best if we all shift." "What about her?" Vienna tilted her head toward the woman. Hennessey frowned. "We might need to let her go." "Nope. We don't have the young Alpha yet. She may motivate them to make the right decision." "Put her on your back then. Trinity?" I took a deep breath and began to shift. Hennessey did the same. Vienna opted out of shifting and walked alongside us instead. My wolf was itching to run, but we didn't even know the meet-up spot. Lucky for us, the next town wasn't far at all. And it was a human town, so no funny business would occur here. We got to a small motel where we saw about ten people standing outside. The first person I noticed when we arrived was Alpha Chris. And he looked to be in pretty bad shape.
