16 THE GUARDIAN'S KEEP
The shadow fog thickens and tightens, forming the sky and walls of a cylinder, a cave, and a hall. When the cylinder begins to solidify, it also begins to turn transparent. Beyond the walls, we can see a panorama of stars, a lonely comet, and a planetary body that might be a misplaced Saturn. The path we walk upon is composed of the stream of stars known as the Milky Way.
Beyond the walls, the events of the surrounding celestial bodies are speeding up, the movement of the comet a perceptible plunge into the inner system. Within moments, the speed of actions beyond our enclosure is beyond the ability of the eye to distinguish the objects being moved. Our cylinder is now composed of an event horizon, making it into an exotic space-time wormhole.
