I smiled as I stretched, waking up from one of the best slumber I've ever had. The tactic worked, as it often did. Drinking heavily to my problems and they often disappeared. Temporarily, that is.
And the fact that I'd done this while bashing the ego of a couple of men made me smile even brighter. Until someone...
"f**k!" I sat up suddenly, memories of last night flooding my head.
Looking around and finding myself in an unfamiliar place gave me a hint of what had happened and as much as I tried to deny it, my nakedness gave me away.
I'd had s*x with a stranger. Someone I'd barely met for thirty minutes.
Without thinking twice, I grabbed my clothes and wore them however I could, picked my phone and saw an envelope meant for me.
"What's this?"
On it, there was a short writing that said he had to leave early and had dropped a small reward for the good time we had last night. I had never felt so humiliated and so worthless.
I cut open the envelope and brought out wads of dollar notes that I counted to be over a thousand dollars.
"Oh. So, he is rich?" I muttered to myself.
Lifting my chin up high and reminding myself that we may never come across each other ever again, I kept the money and walked out the beach house.
“You must have given him such a good time, sweetheart,” Montana squealed. "I'm glad you had so much fun last night."
"Fun? Montana, I'm basically homeless. Few hours from now, I'll be sent out of the house, jobless and homeless. Mom can barely function because of her sickness," I sighed as I vented to my best friend over the phone. "Having fun is the last thing on my mind right now."
"Listen, I know this might be a little too much but I trust your expertise so I know you can bag this job."
"What job?"
"But first, you can bring over your things to my place until you can figure out where to stay after getting your paycheck." She advised but I shook my head.
"I'll just pay the landlord half of his rent and go look for a job out there. The i***t dropped more than enough money." It sounded weird saying so myself. "He must think I'm a slut or something."
Montana finally spoke up. "I'm sure there could be another reason why he dropped that money but that's a topic for another day. Get ready to go for the interview soon. I'll send the address to you."
I frowned.
“That fast? I thought...you know what? Never mind,” I said, shaking my head. “I don't know if I can catch up but I can try.”
“Make time, please.” Montana made her voice firm, but softened the demand with her next words.
“I got to know because my fiance is friends with someone who works there. If you go for it, I'm pretty sure you can sort out your financial problems."
With a marked reluctance, I agreed to go for the interview, and soon after hanging up, her message popped up on my phone. It was the address of the company.
"Arlong Group of Companies. Sounds familiar." But I could not figure out why. Montana called again to tell me the interview is in two hours and I rushed to my apartment to get ready.
As I got dressed in my best outfit, I rushed out of the house only to bump into my landlord.
"Mr. Green, how do you do?"
