Chapter 13: Message From Jail

292 Words
Back at Zain's mansion. Ayesha was back, but the house felt different. Guards everywhere. Cameras in every corner. Zain hadn’t slept. He was in his office, going through files. “Boss,” one guard said. “We got something. From jail.” He handed Zain a phone. It was a video. Raghav. Handcuffed. Smiling. “Hey Khan,” Raghav said on screen. “Thanks for the bullet. Missed my heart by 2 inches.” He laughed. “But don’t worry. I have friends outside. And they know where your little wife sleeps.” The video ended. Zain threw the phone across the room. “Double the security. No one in, no one out.” That night, Ayesha was scared. Then Ayesha whispered, “Why do you care so much?” Zain looked up. His eyes were dark. Tired. “Because the first time in my life,” he said, “someone looked at me and didn’t see the Mafia King. They saw me.” Ayesha’s breath caught. “Who?” she asked. “You,” Zain said. “That night when you had fever. You called me by my name. Not Khan. Zain.” He stood up to leave. At the door he stopped. “If anything happens to you, Ayesha... I don’t know what I’ll do.” After he left, Ayesha found a note under her pillow. 3 words. Zain’s handwriting. `Stay. With. Me.`
