Chapter 3: The Fever

238 Words
Three days had passed. Ayesha was still locked in the guest room. The food came, but Zain never came. On the fourth night, she felt hot. Too hot. Her head was spinning. She had a fever. A bad one. She knocked on the door. "Hello? Someone?" No answer. The guards ignored her. She fell on the bed, shivering. "Please... water..." she whispered. At 2 AM, the door opened. Zain walked in. He looked at her lying on the bed, face red, hair wet with sweat. For a second, his cold eyes showed something else. Worry? He didn't say anything. He just walked to the table, poured water, and sat on the edge of her bed. "Drink," he said, his voice rough. Ayesha opened her eyes. "Why are you helping me? You hate me." Zain gave her the glass. "I hate weak people who die in my house. It looks bad." But his hand stayed on her forehead for 2 seconds. Checking her temperature. His hand was cold. It felt good on her hot skin. "You're burning up," he muttered. Then he stood up. "A doctor will come in the morning." He was about to leave when Ayesha caught his sleeve. "Thank you," she whispered. Zain stopped. He didn't turn back. "Don't thank me," he said. "I didn't do it for you." And he walked out. But Ayesha saw it. For the first time, the Mafia King looked... human.
