The hospital room was quiet.
Ayesha had small bruises on her wrist from the ropes.
Zain hadn’t left her side for even one minute.
He was sitting on the bed next to her, holding her hand.
His suit was torn. His knuckles were bleeding.
But his eyes were only on her.
“Why did you come alone?” Ayesha whispered.
Zain looked down. “Because if I lost you... I would’ve lost everything.”
Ayesha’s heart skipped.
“Zain...”
“I don’t say this to anyone,” he said. “But I’m saying it to you.”
“I don’t care about the mafia. I don’t care about money.”
“The only thing I care about is you. Mine.”
Ayesha felt tears in her eyes. “I was so scared.”
“I know,” Zain said. He lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. Soft.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there sooner.”
Ayesha shook her head. “You came. That’s all that matters.”
Zain leaned forward. His forehead touched hers.
“From now on, you don’t leave my sight. Ever.”
Ayesha smiled weakly. “What if I want to?”
“Then I’ll follow you,” Zain said. And for the first time, he smiled too.
A nurse knocked. “She needs rest.”
Zain nodded but didn’t let go of her hand.
“Rest,” he whispered. “I’m right here.”
And Ayesha finally slept peacefully.
In the arms of the Mafia King who chose her.
