Chapter 2

1827 Words
Greyson While waiting for Lola, I usually killed time in my private garage. I built my own for my team. Whenever I wanted to test my motorcycle or discussing something, that’s where I would go. Also, while waiting for Lola to finish her work. Once I reached the garage, I parked my Ducati and jumped off. Greeting some of my team and headed inside when I saw Owen talking with Faye. “Morning, you two,” I greeted them as they turned their eyes to me. “Morning, Grey,” Owen greeted. “Morning to you too, Greyson,” followed by his girl. “Did you just give a ride Lola to the library?” “Yes.” Owen whistled. “Such a great driver also bodyguard, isn’t he?” Faye giggled. “You mean, Lola’s future boyfriend.” “Don’t say that,” I scolded them. “Well, that’s what you want.” Ouch. That hurt. Owen and Faye were also my friends. Not my friend since childhood. We knew each other in our university year. Owen was also interested in bikes and Faye happened to be his girlfriend. They had been dating since high school year and she was working part-time as my paddock girl. Well, with that body figure it would be so easy for her to be my paddock girl. Standing by covering me with an umbrella and showing her man magnet legs. Some people wouldn’t believe Faye was not my girlfriend because of how close we were. We usually just ignored them and let them talk. I asked her before why he wanted to be my umbrella girl and her answer was very simple. One, the money was good. Two, she could be near Owen. How romantic…or not. “Did Lola get attacked again?” Faye asked worriedly. “No, I won’t let that happen again.” “Sure, because I will cut your d**k off if you let it.” “And if you dare, I will blow those boobs,” I countered. “Hey! Her boobs are mine!” Owen rebuked. “You should woo Lola as soon as possible if you wanted boobs.” “f**k you.” We laughed where someone called for Owen and he went to him after he kissed his girl.  “Would you like a drink?” Faye asked. “Sure.” I strode into my office and took off my jacket and sat on the chair. I turned on my computer and what was shown to me…was Lola’s picture. She was sitting under a tree while reading a book. We were on Middlesex Fells. It was our thing to spend our time together there. Just me and her. Her reading while sitting under the tree near the river while I swim in the river. I took her picture without her noticing it. I thought she looked so beautiful that day. Wearing a long-sleeve soft pink sweater and a long dark grey skirt. She looked so serene and peaceful, almost like she was drowned in the book she was reading that day. Lola told me before reading calmed her. She loved reading those letters because she could imagine anything she wanted. Fiction was her favorite. Romance, obviously. Something girls would normally like. And she was fond of Eden Rose’s books. Most of her books were bestselling ones and she wrote romance fiction. I never tried to read them because I couldn’t get myself to finish one page. So, Lola always told me how the story goes and I must admit something. Even though this person wrote a romance story, something that people should enjoy, to dream their prince charming, she didn’t write any of those. Yes, it was a romance but she wrote a bunch of twists that could make her readers cry in agony. Somehow, the writer wrote how reality worked, not just a mere fantasy.  “My best friend is so pretty, isn’t she?” Faye suddenly showed up beside me as I pushed myself together with the chair away from her out of surprise.  “Don’t f*****g startle me!” “I’ve knocked but you didn’t answer, asshole.” She put down a cup of coffee on the table and rounded the table, sitting on the chair opposite me. Leaning on it and raised her leg on top of the other. “Why you never bothered to try?”  “Try what?” I grabbed my coffee and drank it.  She rolled her blue eyes. “Lola. I know you like her. Owen too. Even Dylan. That’s why I can’t understand you.” I put down the coffee. “You know the reason.” “Come on, Greyson. She’s just admiring him.” I shook my head. “I’ve seen how Lola interacted with that guy and I knew Lola better than anyone; she loves him. You’re her friend too and you should know that.” She didn’t counter me again.  She looked down. “I know,” she said quietly. “Lola never told me she loves him. Yes, she’s so excited and passionate when we’re talking about this Caelan guy but to me, that’s pure admiration, not love.” “Well, maybe you should trust my instinct because I knew Lola for a very long time.” “Or maybe you shouldn’t this time. Although you two are best friends since childhood, that doesn’t mean you knew her entirely. Sometimes she would talk about you.” That picked my interest. “What was she talking about?” “Like how she was amazed and proud with your achievement. How excited she is to see you racing again. Although she’s scared if something happened to you. I think she will cry. And also if she’s bothering you by always picking her up every morning and evening.” Oh, man. How cute was that? “I always said the same thing to her that I never bothered.” “You know her. She’s just doesn’t want to trouble you.” I knew what Faye wanted to say. Everything started after her parents were gone. It was terrible enough because they died right on our birthday. Her parents wanted to surprise her by buying a present for her without her knowing. That day was raining heavily and they were hit by a truck. Said the truck lost control and hit their car. They died on the scene. Since that day, Lola blamed herself because some adults refused to shut their mouths. They were blabbering stupidly loud enough for the girl to listen. That’s how Lola found out her parents were out to buy a present for her. In conclusion, they were dead because of her. It took me a couple of weeks for her to understand. Even Dylan helped me and my parents too. They stayed with us until Dylan gathered enough money for them both. He even wanted to pay my father back but the old man refused. He had considered Dylan and Lola as his children and there was no way he would take Dylan’s money. I would refuse too if Lola did the same to me. We might have allowed them to stay before but that didn’t mean we wanted them to pay us back. “I never feel responsible for picking her up. I want to do that,” I said. “I’ve been saying the same but the little girl is stubborn as a rock.” I smirked. “Well, that’s one of her traits.” “Do you love her?” “Yes,” I answered without hesitation. “I’ve loved her since we were children. She’s my princess but I’m just her knight. I will never be her prince.” “You could be her king,” Faye countered as I directed my eyes to her, finding her smiling in an assuring way. “A king could obtain a princess to turns her into a queen just for him. Just stop holding yourself back just because of your silly promise to Lola or you will lose her for good.” “I will never lose her!” “Then, you should make a move now.” “Just stop f*****g bothering me. What about you? How’s your relationship with Owen?” “We’re doing well and there’s nothing you should be worrying about and I know you are avoiding the subject. Do you know most girls in town have considered you as Lola’s boyfriend because of how close and intimate you two are?” she emphasized the word intimate, making me smirk. “All girls in Boston knew that.” “And I’m amazed you were able to stay your d**k away from available chicks out there,” she joked and I laughed. Yeah, I should give myself an A for that. I mean, come on, I was a woman magnet and I could have any woman I wanted. Give them an eye and they would come to me.  “My playtime has over, Faye.” “What, have you f****d all the girls in Boston?” “Nope. I think.” She laughed. “You’re a jerk.” Yes, I was. She stood up. “I should go now.” “Duty call?” “Yeah. I might get money from Owen too but girls have to be independent. I have to go to work now. See you around, Greyson,” she parted and headed towards the door. Until she stopped by holding on to the handle. “Listen to your heart, Greyson. I know you are a man and men intend to rely on logic rather than intuition but you should obey your heart for once,” she reminded and stepped out. I exhaled and turned my attention to Lola’s picture on my computer. Listen to my heart. Well, my heart had been telling me many times to just get this over with and tell Lola. But my stupid head, the f*****g logic, always managed to slip in and said no. I didn’t want to hurt Lola. She was so precious to me. So precious and I was scared to hurt her. I wanted her to be happy but by imagining Lola with someone else, my intent to kill got stronger, and I refused to let Lola see that side of me. “Damn you, Greyson.”
