As soon as she arrived back home, Elise moved straight to her room and shut the door behind her. Her pulse was still raised from the confrontation with her parents and as much as she had acted like she was strong in their presence, she was not. Once she settled on her bed, she exhaled forcefully, pressing a hand on her forehead. The rush of adrenaline she had felt was fading, and now the emptiness of the whole situation was settling in her chest. Over and over again, the people that had caused her pain were the people that she cared about. Regardless of how she had acted indifferent towards them, a sure reality was that these people were her family.
