Agreeing by accident

*Tala* I'm lost in my own mind, caught up in the mystery of those hazel eyes. Suddenly, Halyn drops down next to me, clearly upset. “I can't believe how rude he was today... just blowing you off like that. Why didn't you reply to my text?” She stops, suddenly worried, “Are you mad at me? I didn't mean for you to get in trouble and take the fall alone.” “No… it’s not that… I’m just… a bit off,” I manage to give her a small smile. “Ugh, that sucks… so, got any plans this weekend? Everyone's talking about Nosferatu. Rumor has it all of the Elite will be there,” Halyn suggests, making it sound so tempting, “I have got this amazing dress that would look perfect on you.” I sigh, “You sound like a broken record, Halyn. But you know me, I'm not really into that kind of scene.” Nosferatu, a club in the local nearby town that is all about the goth vibe. It’s the hotspot for the goth crowd on weekends. But there is not many goths here in the reservation. Only Halyn I think. “And by ‘that kind of scene’ you mean?” Halyn fires back, making air quotes with her fingers, “Chill, it's not some wild s*x party. You know me, right? The rest are just like me… nice, friendly, and super stylish.” "Really? You are as innocent as an angel, right?" I laugh, then glance at my nearly empty coffee cup, craving a refill. I smile to myself... A top-up of hot, black coffee with a hint of cinnamon is just what I need right now. Halyn continues to persuade me to join her at the goth club. We both know what my answer will be, so I let her continue, responding with non-committal grunts and nods, while my mind is filled with images of eyes... hazel nuts and milk chocolate, flecked with green mint. Brown is actually a beautiful color. So warm and welcoming. I'm jolted out of my reverie by an excited shriek, "Yes, finally," Halyn exclaims cheerfully, "You finally agreed." I must look genuinely panicked, unsure of what I just agreed to, "What... what did I just agree to?" "It's going to be amazing," she says, grinning widely, "Finally, you are coming with me to Nosferatu. It is going to be epic." I'm doing what? When did I agree to that? Oh no, can this day get any worse? I seem to keep landing myself in hot water, "I can't go there, Halyn, you know I can't... This isn't fair." "It was your own subconscious agreeing, wanting to try new things. I mean, it's about time you start going out. You know, like a normal teenager." She grins at me. "Really, you think my first night out should be to a vampiric goth club?" I look at her, raising my eyebrows in disbelief. "Well, why not? Go big or go home... Can't you just accompany me once? I promise you will meet some decent folks." She adopts a stubborn expression, "You have already agreed, there's no going back." I can sense her determination. She has caught the scent of submission and metaphorically, she is bitten down hard. "Did you notice the new guy? The one I was talking to?" I fear I sound a bit too interested, but I must divert the subject or I will start to panic. "Absolutely... I suppose he is somewhat attractive. He does seem a bit mature though, I mean he got stubble. The royals sized him up this morning and I think he is in," The look she shoots my way suggests she isn't falling for my subject change. She insists I need to get out and experience my youth before it fades. My thoughts start to wander again.. This is when Pavati Nakai, the queen bee and her band of ‘royals’ strut into the cafeteria. These are the school's popular girls... I am certain they will draw in Jacy. They have long ago exhausted the pool of good-looking guys on the reservation, some they have gone through multiple times. Fresh meat is always welcome. But why should I care? It's not like I would ever stand a chance with a guy like him. Why would he be interested in a timid mouse like me? No, he will likely be swept up by Pavati... or one of her followers by the end of the week... unless he already has a girlfriend, of course. "Are you even listening to me?" Halyn's voice cuts through my fog of thoughts. I snap my head in her direction, pulling myself out of my daydream. "I...yes, I am. Dresses, right?" I try to sound interested, to appear present in the conversation. But my mind is elsewhere, dancing around the image of dark eyes and cute curls. I have never seen someone so… captivating. "You are hopeless," Halyn laughs, rolling her eyes. "But don't worry, I have got you covered. We will find you something stunning. You are going to turn heads, mark my words." I can't help but laugh at her enthusiasm. "I highly doubt that, Halyn. But thank you… for everything." "Of course, love. Now come on, we have got shopping to do." She links her arm through mine, pulling me away from the cafeteria table and towards the unknown excitement of getting ready for a party. As we leave, I steal one last glance at the office door, half-hoping to catch a glimpse of Jacy. But it remains shut, holding my curiosity and daydreams captive. I shake my head, trying to shake off my thoughts. I have got bigger problems to deal with now. Like surviving my first visit to a club and hoping I don't make a fool of myself.
