We heard the front door burst open, and then it was slammed shut so hard that the whole house seemed to shake. We heard Cujo bark gruffly, followed by his nails clicking on the hardwood, as Copeland breathed heavily and rustled around. Reid sighed as I sat up. As much as I wanted to lay in bed with him and let Copeland fend for himself, something told me he wouldn’t just leave us be. Right on cue, Copeland shouted up the stairs, “Reid, I know you aren’t asleep!” He sounded frustrated. I began to gather my clothes in a hurry. I retrieved a pair of warm sweatpants from the dresser in the closet and pulled one of Reid’s T-shirts off of its hanger.
