The Ruthless king

"Which line?" Kira asked, her gaze locked with the girls'. "Why is everyone remaining silent?" Mara gently stroked Kira's light blonde hair before responding, "Because we must follow the wolves' rule of numbers. Never make eye contact or respond to them. That's how we stay safe." Kira sighed, biting her lower lip. "I've never been beaten like that before," she sniffled, her hand red from the whip marks. "I've always considered myself..." "A spoiled brat," Phaedra, the oldest among them, finally spoke up after Kira had been thrown into the cell. "Listen, little girl," she yelled. "We all had lived in the human world, but right now, we don't even exist!" "Mara's right," Phaedra continued, her tone softening. "Don't be too hard on her. She's new to all of this." "Are you new to all of this?" Phaedra scoffed, placing her hand against her chest. "I had a husband and two children at home, and I lost everything because I crossed a stupid portal!" Phaedra broke into tears. "I lost everything just because I went for a morning jog!" She wiped away her tears. "And now, the whipping is the least of our concerns. I overheard one of the guards saying..." Phaedra paused, glancing around as if someone else might be listening in the back of the truck. "Why are you looking around? We're the only ones here," Kira pointed out. "The wolves have incredible hearing. They could hear us even if we were whispering," Phaedra explained, clearing her throat. "I overheard one of the guards say that we are prey for the king's birthday. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but let's prepare for the worst." "This is already the worst!" Mara interjected, her voice trembling. "Are you saying we might not survive?" Phaedra nodded. "Yes, that's what I fear." "What!" Kira's heart pounded against her chest, and she burst into tears once again. "I shouldn't have gone on that day trip with my friends. I only went to pee, and when I came back, wolves were chasing me." Mara sighed, comforting Kira and rubbing her back. "I've heard that their king is a ruthless man. They refer to him as their Alpha," she explained to the girls, meeting their eyes. "I've read about them in novels. They have ranks, from the Alpha who leads the pack, to the Beta who is second in command, the Gamma who handles war and safety, and even a Luna, the Alpha's mate. They also have healers or doctors in our world. And there are lower ranks known as omegas. According to the books, male werewolves have a strong s****l drive, and they..." "In this situation, you're talking about s*x?" Emily, the fifth girl, laughed sarcastically, crossing her arms. "We're about to die, and all you can think about is s*x?" She smirked. "I believe knowing about them could be beneficial to us. We need to know what we're up against," Mara retorted, and the girls began to argue. "That's enough!" Phaedra yelled. "Let's not fight when we're on the verge of death! If we're going to die, let's at least get to know each other first," she pleaded. "Hello, my name is Phaedra, and..." She started sharing her story, talking about her husband and children whom she missed terribly. After Phaedra finished, Kira spoke about her father, whom she would miss for the rest of her life. When she was done, Mara shared that she was a final-year medical student in the human world. She had gone into the forest to search for leaves when the wolves captured her. The remaining girls introduced themselves, explaining how the wolves had captured them and sharing details of their lives. They laughed together, savoring what might be their last chance for joy until the truck arrived at the Royal castle. "I believe we've arrived!" Mara announced, and the girls turned to face the truck doors, expecting them to open at any moment. Kira's heart raced, and she clutched Mara's hand, unwilling to let go as the truck doors finally opened, and they all stepped out. The guards pushed them forward toward the king's magnificent mansion. It was unlike anything they had ever seen before in their lives. "Wow!" Mara exclaimed, her gaze fixed on the grand structure. A massive wolf sculpture stood in front of the mansion, alongside a figure with long hair. Kira's curiosity was piqued, drawing her toward the sculpture. "What is your name?" she asked the sculpture, placing her hand on it. As an electric surge coursed through her body, she felt a strange connection with it. "The king has arrived!" someone yelled from behind Kira, snapping her out of her trance. She quickly withdrew her hand, remembering the warnings from the girls. She turned to see the king approaching her, and she noticed everyone else had stood up, except for her. "What arrogance!" Kira could only stare, mesmerized by the Greek God-like figure before her, as the king's voice resonated melodiously in her ears. she found the King to be a stunning creature, perfectly crafted from his long silver ombre hair to his sharp jawline and muscular physique. His flawless skin made her envious, and his golden eyes shone as brightly as the sun. As the king's hand made contact with Kira's face, her eyes widened. "How dare you look the king in the eye, let alone touch his property?" He yelled, motioning to his bodyguards. The guards forcefully pushed Kira to the ground. "You're a human!" The king sniffed the air, covering his nose in disgust at Kira's dirt-covered state. "What are you doing here?" He demanded. "Your Highness," Gamma Felix stepped forward, bowing to the king. "She is one of the humans apprehended at the border. She has come here to participate in your birthday feast!" he explained. "You should have tamed her!" The king scolded his Gamma, signaling for his bodyguards to lift Kira's head. "Look at me!" He commanded. As Kira raised her head to meet the king's gaze, all he could do was stare. "What should I do with her, your majesty?" Felix inquired. The King cleared his throat, averting his gaze. "She can serve as prey for my birthday," he finally stated. "But she must be punished for daring to look at me and touch my sculpture." The king pointed out, stepping closer to Kira. "Um... please have mercy!" Kira begged informally, her fear evident in her voice. The girls and even Gamma Felix gasped at her audacity. "Give the order to have her killed, and we will carry it out, your highness," Felix assured the king, but his words fell on deaf ears. "Her death won't bring me any pleasure. I enjoy watching my victims cry out in agony as I take their lives," the king declared. "But I do desire her hand," he added with a wicked grin. Kira exclaimed, her gaze fixed on the king. "Your... Highness," she stuttered in fear, her hand trembling as the guards pinned it to the ground. "Please, have mercy," she pleaded, but her plea was ignored. The king approached her, a cruel glimmer in his eyes. He laughed as he placed his boot with thorny soles on Kira's hand. "You thought I was going to cut off your hand, little human, but that's not my intention," the king said. As his boot pressed into Kira's hand, the thorns pierced her skin, and she let out a scream, which went unnoticed by the king. "Never touch my property again, or you may get hurt even worse," he warned before walking away with his entourage. The guards released Kira, who remained on the ground, crying in pain as her fractured hand bled from the thorn wounds. "You worthless human!" Gamma Felix grabbed her and slapped her across the face. "Your foolishness nearly drove the king insane!" He roughly pulled at her clothes, pushing her toward the other girls. Kira landed in the arms of Phaedra and Mara. "Never touch the king's property again, and as punishment, you will all kneel until sunset!" Felix barked before walking away, leaving them in anguish. "Oh, Kira, you're bleeding," Mara said, gently cradling Kira's injured hand. "This needs to be treated to prevent infection." She tore a strip of fabric from her dress and used it to bandage Kira's hand, who whimpered in pain. "You could have pretended not to be a spoiled brat, and now we're all kneeling until sunset because of you!" Emily scolded herself, letting out a heavy sigh. "I know you're new here, but please be more careful!" "Enough arguing," a guard interjected, his voice stern. "If you speak again, you will lose your tongues," he threatened, silencing any further protests. The girls exchanged glares intermittently, unable to voice their frustrations.
