The table was long and endless in front of me. Different kinds of simple meals were set out. Their aromas filled the air and seeped in through my nostril, but nothing felt like the impatience seeping into my bones.
My knee bounced under the table. I set down my fork and picked it up again.
Several minutes have passed since I’ve asked the maids to call her down for breakfast.
My finger clenches tighter around the fork. I adjusted my shoulders, then tugged at my collar. The fabric suddenly felt like it was tightening around my throat.
