32 I pushed the double stroller over a bumpy cobblestone street in Brooklyn Heights. A cop car idled nearby, its engine sending puffs of exhaust into the otherwise pristine street. I glanced down from time to time to make sure the infants weren’t being jostled. Their little hands rested peacefully at their sides as they slept, their pink cheeks partially obscured by raindrops speckling the stroller’s transparent rain cover. We were headed to a park I didn’t often visit, an overgrown hideaway that used to function as respite for hospital patients but had long since been abandoned.
