The bed – a four-poster queen – was much bigger than the last. I sank into it right away. ‘Here, let me help you,’ Andrea said. She removed my shoes for me, placing them carefully next to the door. This small act of kindness nearly brought tears to my eyes. ‘Andrea, I don’t know how to thank you,’ I told her. ‘I know how busy you are right now. The last thing I want is to be a burden.’ ‘You aren’t, Maeve! Not even close. I love having you around. And besides, you’re family. This is just what family does.’ I nodded. ‘I won’t impose on you for long.
