CHAPTER TWELVE

“ Hi, Mirabella,” Martin responded, looking shocked. Mirabella was Luca’s cousin, she came to visit him earlier that day. “ Dude, you didn't tell me you have a guest,” Martin said, looking embarrassed. “ A guest? C'mon Mirabella isn't a guest and you know it. She's my cousin, this isn't young at first seeing her, so why are you acting surprised?” Luca said and sat on the couch. “ You know what I'm talking about, stop playing dumb with me,” Martin said angrily. “ Oh! That, don't worry, your secret is safe with her, she doesn't gossip.” Luca assured. “ Really? Is that what you're going to say?” Martin asked. “ C'mon dude, she's my cousin. I know her better than you do.” Luca said, crossing his legs. “ I'm so disappointed in you right now,” Martin said and sat on the couch too. “ The feeling is mutual bro,” Luca said, smiling. “ Martin, I didn't hear anything, so please don't be scared,” Mirabella said softly. “ Oh please, stop with the lie, I can beat my chest if you heard everything, so stop lying,” Martin said, rolling his eyes. “ Honestly, I didn't hear anything. I had my headphones on when I was in the kitchen; I didn't even know you were around until I came out.” Mirabella said. “ If you say so then. How are you doing? It's been a while.” Martin said with a smile. “ I'm good and you? Mirabella said as walked towards them. “ Same here, I'm good as well,” Martin replied. “ How's your wife? Is she pregnant now?” Mirabella asked, smiling. “ She's fine; no, she's not pregnant yet. Hopefully, soon, she will be pregnant.” Martin said with a fake smile, looking at Luca. “ Really dude?” Luca said, shaking his head. “ What?” Martin asked and looked away. “ Pls don't mind him; as for me, I can't wait to be a godmother. Just so you know, I'll be your child's godmother, whether male or female.” Mirabella said excitedly. “ You wish,” Luca said. “ Why? Why would you say that? Don't you want me to be a godmother? I know you don't like Evelyn, but you don't have to transfer the hatred to her unborn child.” Mirabella said softly. “ He wouldn't even dare to hate my child, never!” Martin said firmly. “ I don't understand; why are you both speaking as if she's pregnant already? The lady in question is not even pregnant yet and won't even be pregnant till she leaves, so why are you both stressed?” Luca said. “ Leaves? Who is leaving? Are they getting a divorce?* Mirabella asked with her eyes wide open. It was at this moment that Luca realized that he had messed up by spilling that information. He looked at Martin who had already turned red in anger. “ Guy, I'm sorry I didn't know when that came out.” He pleaded. “ How would you know? You're the least person one can ever trust with a secret. You know what? I'm done, I will take my leave. Last warning, I don't want to ever see my wife, warning or threatening her. You and Helen should leave us alone and let me solve this issue on my own.” Martin said as he stood up from the couch to take his leave. “ What would you have us do when your plan is taking forever?” Luca asked as he stood on his feet. “ It's none of your business! It's my life, my home, my marriage; let me handle it the way I want!” Martin yelled and stormed out of the house. “ I won't sit here and watch you hurt Helen, if going to your house is what will make that greedy thing you call a wide sign the damn papers, then so be it. I will go there over and over again till she does the right thing.” Luca said after him. “ What's going on? What's the issue with Helen? What has she gotten to do with this? I thought she was his ex. Wait a minute, don't tell me those two still see each other even after he got married. I hope she's not pregnant?” Mirabella asked, looking surprised. “ It's none of those, never mind,” Luca said and sat back on the couch. Suddenly, Helen came out of Luca's bedroom, and Mirabella quickly excused them. Helen was in years; “ Why would he want to do this to me? Is it a crime to help your man in his time of need? You needed help at that time and since I couldn't help, I brought up an excellent idea that saved his ass. Instead of him being grateful to me for saving him, he's putting the whole blame on me because I refused to walk down the aisle with him when I wasn't ready for marriage.” Helen said tearfully. “ You made a big mistake and you know. I warned about this whole idea but you kept saying you've got everything covered. Now explain to me how it has been going lately. That guy is already in love with Evelyn; it's so obvious. I had to make that girl feel less of herself earlier at his place, yet Martin was here, almost fighting me because it is her; what does that tell you?” Luca asked, looking into her eyes for an answer. “ I don't care! I don't care!! All I know is that I want Martin back; I want him to myself forever. I can never share my man, and I'll give it whatever it takes to bring him back into my life.” Helen said firmly. “ Does that matter anymore? It's not all about you, Helen. You want him back in your life, does he want you? That should be the question you should be asking yourself and stop fighting unnecessarily.” Luca said. “ Don't tell me to stop fighting, don't! Martin is mine and mine alone!” Helen yelled. “ Yet you allowed him to slip off your hands by hiring a strange lady to act as his wife when you could marry him,” Luca said and looked away. “ I wasn't ready for marriage and you know it,” Helen said tearfully. “ And now that you're ready, he doesn't want you, isn't that bad?” Luca asked, looking at her. “ If I can't have Martin, no woman can have him,” Helen said firmly. “ But Evelyn already has him and also the key to his heart. Oh! Sorry about that.” Luca said and burst into laughter. “ It's not funny, Luca. Stop it!” She yelled. “ Just take it easy on yourself before you Injure yourself.” Luca said calmly. “ I think I have an idea that will make the divorce faster,” Helen said. “ Really? Ok, I'm listening.” Luca said as he adjusted himself on the couch.
