"He's probably just doing it to keep up appearances," a small voice said from beside me. She took my hand and gave me a smile.
"Arachne, leave our guest alone," Atlas said, sending her a small glare. The tiny pup looked up at me curiously. She was probably about half my age, but seemed wise beyond her years.
She gave me another smile and this time I felt time slow.
'Skye?'
"It's me," the girl smiled. I looked around us, and everyone else seemed to have frozen.
"You?" I asked, "You have the same-"
"No," she laughed playfully, shaking her head, "my gift is that I can see desires. I watched Achilles get out of the car, and all he thought of was you...are you his mate?"
"I-" I stuttered, unsure of how to answer the question, "He believes me to be..."
"You don't know?"
"My wolf-"
"She hides your desire," she nodded, "I know. I can't see anything with you."
"You can't?"
She shook her head, "no...but that happens with people who are pure of heart...at least that's what my grandma says."
"You are quite the wise little owl," I smiled, "I'm surprised you aren't Athena."
"Luck of the draw," she shrugged.
"How did you?" I asked, referring to how she was freezing time.
"Oh I'm not," she smiled, "right now we are in the elevator headed up to your room so you can eat and get changed. This is all happening in your mind."
"My mind?"
She let go of my hand with a nod, and I looked around. It was like I was instantly transported into the elevator. True to Arachne's word, Mags held a plate for me and her, and Arachne did the same.
"She did it to you, didn't she?" Mags asked.
I looked at her, awestruck, only able to nod.
"If you don't stop doing that to people your grandmother will put the necklace back on you."
Arachne's smile faded and she looked at me. Then her eyes lit up, "you have one too."
"What?"
"Magdalena is Achilles' mate special like me?"
"That's none of your business," Mags responded, not bothering to look at Arachne, "and don't call her your brother's mate. Achilles will get mad if you do."
"Where's Janna and Atlas?" I asked, realizing that only the three of us were on the elevator. The doors opened onto the fourth floor and we got out.
"Once I realized Arachne had started speaking to you, I offered to take you up to the room," Mags said in a half-interested manner, "Arachne has the tendency to bother people, and goddess knows if we would have seen you again."
"I don't hold people against their wills Magdalena," Arachne sighed, walking down the hall where her family stayed.
"Be careful with her," Mags said, shaking her head as we headed down to my room, "Arachne may seem sweet, but she loves to get inside people's heads. The only one worse than her is Aiakos."
"What's the matter with him?"
"The moon goddess gifted him with a black wolf," she said simply, "which is a trademark for most of the men in this family. Don't worry you'll learn which gifts they all have soon enough. They're very accurately named. Atlas' father says that the moon goddess came to him herself to tell him the names of the pups."
Without meaning to I found myself shivering as a cool burst of air rushed by me.
"See what I mean?"
"What was that?"
"Aiakos," she laughed, "he's trying to get the low-down on you and Janna because Achilles hasn't told his father anything about the two of you."
"I didn't even see him," I said in an amazed tone, "Arachne only looks about 8 or 9. How old is their youngest brother?"
"Well if I can remember correctly, Apollo is about 30 now, and Ares is only a few years older than Achilles, so I think he just turned 26, or is turning 26. Then Achilles is 24, Atlas is 22, and the twins are 15. Arachne is actually 11, she is just very small. And it's actually Aiakos who just turned 9. Like I said though, you'll learn all about the family soon enough. Apollo hardly comes home. He always sends Ares, but the girls will definitely try to figure you out. Probably at training."
Another cool blast of air rushed by me, but only this time it went down our hallway.
"Aiakos, if you are in the girls rooms, I'll make sure that I send Atlas after you."
Another burst of air rushed by, and I faintly heard, "He can't catch me," followed by a little boy giggling.
"It's probably best if you lock your door behind you," Mags laughed, "he's too curious for his own good."
I nodded at her suggestion and we walked towards my room. Quickly eating, I got changed, and we made our way to the training grounds. Atlas was staring at his watch as we walked up to him. "Weren't you with the other one?"
"Janna?" he groaned, "yeah, I dumped her off on Sam when she took forever eating. She wouldn't stop flirting with Achilles. You guys didn't see her on the fourth floor?"
Inwardly I felt myself wanting to growl.
'He's my mate...not Jannas.'
"Down girl," a teenager laughed. I turned to face her and was met with two sets of identical eyes, "Alena, is this one of the girls from that pack you guys visited?"
"Yes, Athena," she sighed, coming up to the twins. They looked at one another and smiled, "this is Mira from-"
"We don't care," the other twin said.
"We just don't want you getting in the way of our family legacy," Athena said.
"Arachne and Aiakos already told us everything we need to know about you."
"Funny," I smiled, "your siblings didn't mention either of you."
"She's lying," Athena said, looking at Magdalena.
"Tell us she's lying."
"Wish I could," she lied, sucking in her cheeks, "Atlas didn't even mention you two."
The two girls looked over to their older brother in disbelief, "you didn't tell the new she-wolves about us?"
"How could you?"
"Athena, A-"
"NO!" They simultaneously called, shaking their heads, "You don't get to speak to us anymore."
Together the two of them walked away and towards the back of the training grounds. He glared at Mags, "thanks a lot. I'll never hear the end of that."
"They'll get over it eventually," she laughed, wrapping her arms around him, "you know they will."
"The same sisters who hid my favorite jacket for a month when I told them I asked you out, without their advice," he scoffed, "yeah. Okay."
Before I could add in my two cents a very annoyed looking Sam came into our little circle with an even more annoyed looking Janna, "all I'm saying is that the pack house should have an elevator that's not for staff or omegas."
"Alright everyone!" Sam said, using his beta voice, "Pair up for continued training."
I looked around, unsure of who I would chose, until I heard a sweet voice behind me, "hey partner."
I turned to see Athena. Her twin was doing the same thing to Janna.
