"Why did you do it Margo?" my dad asked me in a sad tone.
"We give you everything you ask for. Why did you have to steal from the store"? I remained silent. Not saying anything at all making him madder than he already was.
"I believe I asked you a question young lady and I deserve an answer " He said raising his voice.
" And I am supposed to give an answer?"
I asked rolling my eyes. I am what you folks can term a spoilt child. Growing up, I had everything I wanted. My dad was into real estate while my mom was a fashion designer. The dream was to be a super model but life has a way of turning things around. My parents didn't hesitate to get me whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it. I was the last child after all. The only girl out of five. The only thing I wanted which I didn't have was my parent's love and attention. I got into trouble a lot to gain attention but it never worked. Now that I have their attention, I plan to delay this meeting as best as I can. The plan, very simple. Be rude and don't apologise.
"Apologise right this minute Margo. You know better than talk to your Father like that"
my mother hissed at me.
" And why should I do that mother?"
I asked her. She suddenly went pale and I almost regretted my words. I have never been this rude so it came as a shock to them.
"That's it"
my dad said. I knew he had decided my punishment. That was how I ended up with a distant relative of mom's cousin in Nigeria. Did I hate it? Not one bit. I learnt a lot from Aunt Lucy . she was a single mother of two and had to work hard. she still created time to spend with her girls. I felt welcome and accepted. She showed me how a family is supposed to be like. most nights, I go to sleep wondering why she wasn't my mother. if dad thought he punished me, I must say he is delusional. It was the best two months of my life. Dad really needs to get creative in giving punishments.
God I wish I never said that. My dad did get creative.
Last week, I was invited to a late night party and my parents wouldn't let me go. My brothers also refused to cover up for me. I just didn't understand why they were all against it. Well, that gave me the perfect opportunity to do something I would later regret. Stacy was my friend and there is no way I would not attend her party.
I met her at the school cafeteria and told her what my parents said. I could see the hurt in her eyes and I didn't like it. It made me eager to go against my parents.
" Don't look so sad" I said to her smiling.
"I plan to sneak " I whispered earning a huge grin from her.
"That's why you are my best friend" she said hugging me. We started going over dresses and makeup to use. I didn't want to do anything elaborate in case my parents and brothers noticed.

The party starts in an hour. I was more than ready to sneak out of the house. I had my equipments ready which consisted of a flashlight and a ladder to climb down my window. I was dressed in leather pants and jacket over a black tube top. I double checked to make sure every one was asleep then made my way down my window. My bike was kept outside the gate so my parents wouldn't hear me leaving the house. I crawled out the opening I created in the fence and walked to my bike. That was so easy. I arrived at the party a little after midnight. It was in full swing and almost every one in our year was there. I wonder why Stacy threw the party outside town. I found her soon enough on the rooftop making out with a boy I have never seen. Not like I pay attention to them anyway. Stacy still tries to talk me into giving guys a chance but to no avail. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate boys, I just don't want to waste my time and energy on any.
I let out a fake cough to announce my presence.
"Margo "
She chirped happily. She disentangled herself from her companion and tried to hug me. No way am I letting that happen. Not after seeing where her body was a few seconds ago. I moved away from her. I watched as if In slow motion as She fell from the roof.
