Daniel's POV I didn't really have a destination in mind. We were alone on the road, racing through the night with nothing but darkness ahead of us. At first, Laura had practically been clinging to me for dear life. Every muscle in her body had been tense. But after a while, her grip changed. She stopped holding on because she was scared. Instead, she simply wrapped her arms around my waist and rested herself against my back. Just us. Just the road. For the first time in what felt like forever, nobody expected anything from us. Nobody was watching. Nobody was asking questions. Nobody was forcing us to lie or pretend. Although... were we even pretending anymore? I wasn't sure.
