Kael's POV
The second my hand touched hers, everything went wrong.
Or right.
I still couldn't decide what was what.
One moment I was heading towards the open lounge, past the pool where ivy and her pack of vultures cornered the new girl.
I was satisfied that she finally got to understand how hierarchy worked around here.
And the next?
She fell towards me and my wolf lost his damn mind.
‘Mate.’
The word slammed through my head so hard that I nearly stumbled.
My fingers had wrapped around Noah's waist before I even realized I'd moved.
She crashed against my chest, her body was soft and warm and it suddenly made every sound around me disappear.
Which has never happened before, ever.
All I could hear was the rhythm of my own heart beat and hers.
Like there was a string pulling us, connecting us.
Which was the most bullshit scene to have happened because that girl was the definition of a spoiled brat who grew up around feminist that think they should be entitled to everything.
Still.
My wolf surged within me, rattling the word ‘Mate.’ through my skull.
I looked down at her, her grey eyes staring up at me and her silky brown hair tangled around my arm loosely.
My wolf had never reacted to any one this way, never.
He had never found someone's scent alluring, like rain and wildflowers.
Have I had too much to drink? Or was my wolf really playing tricks on me, because there was absolutely no way in hell I should react to this girl like the way I am now.
Anybody but this random omega who had arrived in less than twelve hours ago and used every second insulting all what I stood for.
My grip tightened around her waist as my wolf struggled to take control but then realizing I could no longer hold on, panic slammed into me and I let go.
“Here's to staying out of your business."
The splash that followed was deeply satisfying as the courtyard of other elite wolves erupted into laughter.
As though the spell that controlled me shattered. I could breathe again, I had full control of my wolf again and I was left wondering what the hell just happened seconds ago.
Noah surfaced seconds later, drenched and furious though a few other cane to help her out of the water.
I turned away from her and away from ivy before anyone could see the slight confusion on my face.
‘you threw her in the damn water?’ my wolf growled.
"Are you daft? What was that stunt you pulled in my head?" I hadn't realized I said that out loud until several people stared at me strangely.
“Talking to yourself now?” a blond haired, blue eyed Greek god posing as my beta snorted as he approached me.
I ignored him and grabbed a drink from the nearest table before heading to sit in the lounge far opposite the pool.
“Unfortunately." I moved my shoulders into a shrug.
My beta laughed.
Not technically my beta but Corbin was the closest thing I had to a friend. Aside from the fact that he and I grew up together, it was only logical that when I got to rule the school, he ruled tight beside me.
After Noah got out of the pool, the party quickly moved on though someone made a joke about her as they passed us and someone else laughed, then another.
Soon half the group that came for the part was talking about Noah Hale.
"That was one way to welcome a freshman,” he jeered as he reached for a cup of beer from a half naked girl that held a tray of it.
“She'll survive."
“Maybe." He sipped from the cup. "But she looks feisty though, doesn't look like she's from around here.”
"Mhmm” I drank from my cup.
"I heard you toured her..
“By mistake, I mean who names their girl ‘Noah’ that's a f*****g stereotype”
Corbin laughed. "So you did get to talk to her.. where's she from?"
I sighed in frustration. “Look I didn't care to know, she's just one of those girls who think the world revolves around them and shouldn't be put down by rules."
Corbin was about to say something when Ivy appeared flanked by her vultures.
“Hey Corbin." The vultures hummed and Corbin only gave them a curt nod.
“Hey ladies.”
Ivy came up to me like she always did, people could describe her as beautiful, perfect and confident.
The typical perfect Luna everyone expected me to end up with.
" Hey Kael.”
I barely had the time to respond before her arms wrapped around my neck and she kissed me.
Same kiss she'd given me hundreds of times.
They were familiar and predictable.
When she pulled away she giggled and interlocked our fingers together.
"What you did is all over campus.”
I arched my brow. "You mean when you shoved someone into a pool?"
One of her vultures burst out laughing but ivy rolled her eyes.
She never liked it when someone was taking her shine in whatever.
“Please. She deserved it."
Her vultures immediately agreed as always. “Did you see her face?" The taller one laughed. “I thought she was going to cry."
“Maybe she'll transfer back tomorrow." The shorter one giggled.
"She's just one of those idiots who claimed they don't like my man, only for them to ask for a private make out behind backs.”
The thought of Noah asking for a private make out latched on to my brain, her rosy shaped lips against mine and those grey eyes staring into my soul while I fisted my hand in her….
Fuck.
I pushed Ivy off me immediately, dragging my hand down my face in frustration.
" What the f**k Kael?" Ivy screamed as the paper cup of beer splashed all over her. " What is wrong with what I just said?”
I could have shown remorse but I was acting exactly how a man acted when he discovered fate had a sick sense of humor.
" Enjoy the party, I'm out.”
