"Have you figured out what you are going to do before joining campus yet?” my mother asked over a cup of tea.
"I'm not sure but I will formulate something unless you have an alternative in mind?"
She took a sip of tea and studied my face for a while with her fingers crossed. She smiled and rubbed against my hair.
"You could help me with house chores and I could pay you well."
"No, that sounds irrelevant because I have to do it eventually. Besides, I need a job that will build and shape up my skills such as printing for example."
"I'm not sure whether I have friends needing employees with such a skill but I'll ask around for you. "Silence befell the room for a while and after finishing her tea, she initiated the conversation again.
"You could try asking Jade as she's always going on about needing someone to help her with her office work; Jade was my elder sister apparently working in a small investment firm downtown.
"I-... I don't want to be dependent on her. I can do this on my own. I will figure something out soon" I said while making my way back to my room.
I turned on my laptop and began looking up jobs online only to realize how dumb that was and literally gave up five minutes into the search. All the jobs required a particular skill that I did not have sadly. “Quite unfortunate for me. However, I got a couple of months till I join the university so no need to rush,"I comforted myself.
My mother walked in after a few minutes later.
"l brought your telescope," she said while handing it over to me.
"Wow where did you even get It after all these years."
"It has been in the attic for pretty long; about seven years or so collecting dust."
"I doubt I even remember how to use it.'
“ No worries though, we will have fun" she said as she walked back downstairs.
This thing brings about fun memories ranging back to when I had a tree house. I would look into space and admire the vast galaxies covering the sky and try to come up with a theory about our existence.
There were so many documentaries trying to explain our existence.” What if there are aliens trying to feed on us and we are not smart enough to realize that? What if they don’t exist at all?” Well, i might as well leave that to Galileo and the gang.
I walked towards the window and used the telescope to look around.
I was just in time to witness a road accident involving two parties. They alighted from their vehicles, one with a baseball bat and the other with a club taunting one another and this was likely to result into conflict.”Where did he even get the club to be honest?” I thought to myself.
Mrs Freeman was busy with her yoga practice at her backyard. She was so flexible for a woman in her forties and looked younger but Ashley caught my attention. Her house was beside Mrs Freeman's and her window was adjuscent to mine but quite a distance. She was on her bed reading a I couldn’t make out; she had a black dress on that went well with her blue hair. There was something gothic about how she looked but at the same time it seemed clishe. I could not put my finger to it.” I would have inquired hadn’t she been that way.” I thought with a smile.
She had a diary on the other side of the bed which she walked with at school. It was exposed and maybe if I zoomed a bit closer I’d catch a glimpse of its contents. Upon zooming, she looked directly at me. I got bewildered and moved back towards my bed nearly tripping and hurting my foot.” s**t!! What should i do? I bet she has already posted about it on the internet. Smooth Vade you just had to do it” I said to myself.
I turned on the HiFi and gagged my face with a pillow hoping I and her would forget about it. “She probably didn't even notice...ugh she stared directly back at me. Of course she noticed and this song wasn't even helping. I turned it off and took a nap. After a while, I heard a knock at the door. I thought it was my mum and quickly responded.
My eyes still closed, I hardly noticed Ashley standing by my bedside till she talked.
"Boo!" her face coming directly towards mine.
"Huh... Ash-Ashley what are you doing in my room?"
"You let me in dummy. Now why are you stalking me!"
I quickly got up and moved towards the wall leaning against it. She followed then pinned me against it her face really close to mine. Had she been taller we would have been in contact. I could tell she was furious at me. Her face was all red and in my mind I could hear steaming sounds as if...
"Don't make me ask again!" she whispered then leaned abit higher.
"Ashley...I- I can explain...I really didn't mean to..."
"Shut up ugh..."
"Okay...I'm sorry.Please don't hurt me."
For a slight moment I thought she was starting to enjoy humiliating me until she grabbed me by my collar and pulled me back onto the bed.
She got over me with her small hands slightly choking me.
"What are you doing?"
"I said shut the f**k up"
She looked directly at me with her hands still on my neck. I felt hot inside. It was a new feeling that I did not like nor hate but it felt good, almost close to a bottle of scrumpy.
I was pretty sure she was enjoying this just like how I did but this was starting to get awkward. She let go sat on me and looked away while trying to sweep away a strand of hair that was covering her face with her left hand.
"If I find you stalking me or anywhere near me again I will kill you. Got that doof ass?" I nodded.
"Good and just as a guarantee, I'll be taking this" she left with my telescope. I could hear her voice downstairs as she conversed with my mother.
"Hey Mrs Johnson, I'm helping Vade clean his telescope it is really dusty."
"Aaw such a good girl"
God have mercy. I thought out loud.
I came to a conclusion that gothic girls are definitely weird in a cool sort of way. I decided to give her some space till evening. Then try getting it back and probably apologizing.
I decided to call on Jake hoping he would help me get a job or alternative to keep me busy. I found him trying out a rocket launcher made from metal scrapes and homemade materials. It was literally pointed at my direction when I walked into his garage and apparently I chose a bad time to visit as he immediately launched it. It missed my head by a few centimetres and flew off into the sky.
"Damn are u trying to get into ISIS because it looked like you qualified what the feck are you doing! You could have blown off my head you idiot."
"Ah Vade! Just the guy I was looking for. When did you get back?!"
"Bruh you almost blew up my head and you are still asking me about my arrival?"
"Yeah I got work for you my guy" he said while adjusting his glasses.
"I did not even ask"
"I can tell by your facial expression"
"How is that even possible"
"Do you want work or not?"
"It depends what sort of work you are offering"
"Come in! Come in! Welcome to my humble garage."
"I have been here before no need for the dramatic poses."
"I know, it just felt good to say it. Now back to business, allow me to show you this!" he says as he unveils a modified vehicle with a rocket turbine at the back.
"Wow... okay what does it do?” I asked while keeping my distance away from the vehicle.
"It is supposed to fly but I'm still working on it.Come back tomorrow and we can try it out."
"I'm not getting in that thing" I said nonchalantly." How do you even know it's safe?"
"I do not know. I was meaning to find out after you tested it."
"What the...I could die!" he started laughing.
"You do not know that and there's a slight chance things would go wrong."
"I'm getting out of here. This was a bad idea" I said while marching out of his garage.
"Vade, do not give me that attitude bro, it is just for the sake of science.”
"No s**t!"
"I'll be here if you change your mind"
