The lecture is about to begin. Smith, Jackson and Diana were already at the theatre situated in the same row. The students are sitting waiting for the lecture to begin. There was a commotion all over the class and, unexpectedly, one young man moved into the class's stage and then said;
"Good morning to you all, all my dear colleagues, and welcome to the University of Illinois's school of law. My name is John Abraham. I'm going to teach you LAW 101, an introduction to the legal method, he said while writing LAW 101 INTRODUCTIONS TO LEGAL METHOD on the whiteboard.
Before we proceed, I'd like every one of you to introduce yourself to the class so that we may be acquainted with each other.
After students introduced themselves to one another, the lecturer proceeds to give the course outline, an overview of the course and his class ethics.
" As you're all new to this course, do not expect me to conduct only lectures and notes on this course. I usually divide the class into groups for group discussions and I expect them to meet later after school hours for discussion of the tasks they were given. Individual paper presentations, class interaction during lectures on the recent judgement of trending cases across the country is also mandatory. Perhaps, not only national cases but also international trending issues, politics, foreign policy, and international pacts and treaties are all subjects of discussion." The lecturer said.
"Now to you all, I want to ask a few questions. " Why do you want to study law? and what are the contributions you're willing to give to this noble profession?" The lecturer asked.
All the students started murmuring and looking at each other.
"Silent!" he said and then continued saying. These are not silly questions. You've been supposed to know the answers since before you made up your mind about seeking admission into the school of law." He then pointed to one fat dude in the middle of the class and then said, 'Hey, dude, stand up, reintroduce yourself and respond to our questions."
The guy stood up while shivering and then started responding by stammering. "Uhmm, my name is Benton B., Sir, I want to study law because I want to see myself in court standing before the honourable judge wearing a wig and a gown....and...and"
The class is all laughs and cheers!
"Silent!" Thank you, Mr B., you may sit down. The lecturer said, and then pointed to one girl and asked her to answer the question.
She stands up confidently and starts responding to the questions by saying that, " I made up my mind to study law to protect my rights and other people's rights and save the world from injustice and chaos. As for the contributions I want to make to this noble profession, I want to bring transition in the entire profession by innovating digital court for easy access to....!
The class all hailing and applauding her confidence.
Quite!" The lecturer said. He then keeps pointing at students one by one to respond to the questions. Some answered silly and funny while others sounded reasonable. The class is very cheerful and interactive. As every student enjoyed the lecture.
Now, as I said, I'll divide this class into four groups. Each group will be given a task each week to go and sort out the issues on it and then come to present it before the class. Each day we have two hours for this class. 40 minutes is for lectures, 20 minutes for questions and answers, 40 minutes for presentations, while 20 minutes is for national and international trending issues. I hope you all understand the nature of this class." The lecturer said.
He then moves by dividing the class into four groups. Each group has 10 students. Diana, Smith and Jackson are in the same group.
After each student was assigned into a particular group and a particular topic was given to them for discussion and presentation. Each group was given a group coordinator. And then the lecturer called it off for the day.
"Hey, Jackson, the lecture is incredible. Where is Diana?" Smith asked while coming out of the theatre holding Jackson's hand.
"I don't know, she must be somewhere around. Let me give her a call", Jackson responded.
"There she is," Smith said while pointing at her standing with some guys talking.
"They're our group members. Let's go and join them. Maybe they're organising how the group discussion will be," Jackson said.
They walked towards them.
"Hey dudes, what's up are you all in group B?" Jackson said.
"Yeah, we're discussing how we can go with it. " someone responded.
OK, who's our group coordinator? Smith asked.
"He's Ladan Domer," Diana said while pointing at him.
Hey, Ladan Domer, how do you plan the group discussion? " Smith asked?
Well, we are now planning how it will be with all the group members. But what the majority want it to be is that each student should go for independent research on the topic we have given within the next two days. We set up to meet and start the discussions." Domer said.
"Good idea, I subscribed to it," Smith said.
They all subscribed to it and also agreed to meet the next day after tomorrow night for the discussion in Law theatre 3.
******************
The group discussion begins as early as seven pm. Everyone can attend it. Domer, Jackson, Smith, Diana, Sa'ad, Suhailah, Laila and Mubarak were the attendees of the discussion.
"Our assignment here is to discuss the effect of judicial precedent on contemporary legal decisions. How olden days judgments downshift the entirely legal system." Domer introduced the assignment.
The group discussion is very interactive and fascinating. All eight participants fully contributed and brought something very meaningful to the topic.
By about 11:00 pm they rounded off the discussion and left the hall.
