t took Shake four days to make it back to the Texas Hill Country. He got some beer and chow at the local HEB grocery and restocked the larders. He called the Sheriff to let him know he was back and drove to Austin to pick up Bear. The big dog leaped up to put his paws on Shake’s shoulders and slobbered all over him. The minute Shake opened the passenger side door for him, Bear leaped into his standard riding position and barked. He knew when it was time to go home.
Chan was due back at the first of the week, and he wanted her to go along when he went to Washington to testify, but she declined. She knew when it was time to come home as well as Bear did. And Chan intended to stay there for a while.
